Question about 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

I have a ticking noise in my 2004 jeep cherokee. This noise starts off very light and progrssively gets louder. It will finally stop and then start over again as if it was running in a sequence. I beleive that I have just noticed a second set of ticking in between this one. Both sound the same.

From here, it would be silly to tell you what is causing that. It shouldn't be too hard to listen and look till you find where the noise is coming from, if it's inside the engine, it may be a valve lifter "hanging up" Marvel oil will generally help there. if it's a control unit or relay don't be too quick to condemn it...it may be getting an errant signal from elsewhere. But, you need to find it to fix it!!!

Only thought is, when you tighten the bolts ,go a little on
one ,then the other, like 3 times, don't tighten one all the way
first. Makes the housing warp.

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee makes a loud ticking noise, won't start.

Your problem is likely a bad battery and/or corrosion on the battery terminals. Remove the cables from the battery terminals and clean them with a wire brush or other tool. NOTE: always remove the negative cable first and reconnect it last. Reconnect the cables and then try to start/jump the vehicle again. If that doesn't clear the problem, take the battery to your local auto parts store or supplier and have them check it. You will probably need a new one.

how many miles on it,sounds like lifter noise which is normal for high mileage jeeps, but if you have over 140k it is not a good idea to run synthetic oils as they are thinner than conv oil and it might start to consume oil.

Those purge sensors are mounted on rubber.
Maybe the rubber is worn out.
