Question about 2004 Dodge Stratus

I did a diagnostic test at home on my 04 Dodge Stratus and it said something about a camshaft malfunction/failure. Can u tell me how much getting that fix cost? Or how much a camshaft cost?

That would be a cam shaft sensor issue .The cost of the sensor is about $65 With about .8 hours of labor .So for about $150 you can have the sensor installed :)

Car will not start code reader is saying camshaft sensor malfunction. I replaced the camshaft sensor and it still wont start still same code. is there a way to test the censor? what should I check next.

Hello there , try your battery terminals. The smaller wires that go to your terminals can be electronic ignition , if there connection is dirty or the in line fuse is corrosive your motor will turn over and not start. .. Regards Graham ....

Replaced my starter on my 04 dodge stratus still cranks but wont start did the spark plugs and fuel pump is good what else can it e

The Engine and Automatic Transmission (not applicable to manual transmissions) in this vehicles drive train are fully electronically controlled by a computer called the PCM and TCM (Power Train Control Module, Transmission Control Module). When a problem like this or other drive-ability related problems occurs the computer stores a record of the problem (there are of course some exceptions to this, like the fuel pump, engine coolant temperature sensor and MAF sensor for instance) in the form of a fault code in its memory, to read these fault codes you must have the systems memory scanned with a special tool. Once the fault code(s) are read you then must perform the appropriate diagnostic testing to find and resolve the problem(s) DO NOT REPLACE ANY PARTS UNTIL A TRAINED TECHNICAIN HAS DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TO AVOID SPENDING YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY ON PARTS THAT MAY NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. Also always check fuel pressure for correct spec for your make and engine type.

2004 Stratus 2.7l bucks above 2000rpm runs fine below 2000rpm. MIL P0344 is set, changed sensor reset code and it came back, unplugged sensor and tried starting the car. The car started after 8 seconds and...

Did you check your camshaft position sensor circuits to see if they were working correctly or test the sensor itself before going out and replacing the sensor?....Didn't think so....

Lesson learned here? Diagnostic Test Codes (DTCs) DO NOT tell you what parts to replace. They only tell you which systems or circuits in your vehicle are not working as they should be. Then it is up to the person diagnosing the car to determine what is actually CAUSING the system or circuit to malfunction......Of coarse, this requires that you must first understand how the system is supposed to work...

Anyway, with some proper diagnosis, I think you will probably find that your cam sensor code (P0344) is being caused by a timing belt that has skipped a tooth (most likely).

Bad wires or connectors in the wiring harness that is losing contact at times can also cause that code. This can be verified by watching the cam sensor signal to the PCM with a lab scope and wiggle-testing the wiring harness to see if the signal drops out.

The cam/crank sync needs to be checked with a scan tool. If the sync PID is switching back and forth between YES and NO, then it is most likely a skipped timing belt. This is usually CAUSED by a bad timing belt tentioner pulley assembly.

Yup! they DO tend to buck a little when the valve timing is not correct!

(If the cam does not turn, the cam sensor does not produce a signal, and the computer has a problem with that).

Just change timing belt on 98 dodge stratus 2.4l getting code of camshaft sensor malfunction could it be that timing is off

Who replaced the timing belt? The timing could be
off cause timing marks were not aligned before new
belt installed. Distributor is also involved here.
