Car wont start untill i press on the gas?

Check your cam and crank position sensors. Check the fuel pressure regulator and then the Fuel pump itself. This sounds stupid, but go check the gas cap too and make sure it is on tight. Sometimes it's the little things..haha. The two sensors tell where the crank and cam are in relation to each other and TDC of Piston 1. If one of the sensors is out of whack...the whole timing process will be thrown off. Most of the time if the cam sensor is bad, the car won't start, if the crank, it will start but run like ****. They don't cost much usually and your car is old enough that they should be replaced anyway. The MAF sensor would just cause the car to run rough most of the time if it were faulty or dirty. But being how generalized those codes are, it's never fun to figure out. Hope this helps you :)

Gas no pumping , car does crank

if this is a fuel injection system its possible that the fuel pump has seized when you last turn off the motor.the brushes and comutator in the pump wear out and sometimes they will work fine then the next time you go to start it they seize and won`t start.

The 1990 XJ6 has been sitting for the last 2 years and now won't start. The engine turns over fine. The dash gages don't seem to operate. I filled the gas tank with 5 gallons of premium gas. HELP!!!

I wish I could give you an instant fix, but I can't. Do you have spark? If so then its either your fuel pump or the CPS, crank position sensor. If no spark then it could be your coil.

Hi,, your computer should be giving you a code. Do you get a check engine light? Most likely the IAC (idle air control) valve or throtle position sensor. If you can get the codes its giving you can track the problem down better without guesswork.

It sounds like your ignition module is starting to go bad. As it gets worse it will be harder and harder to start, until it doesn't start at all. Your crankshaft sensor could also be going bad. Hope this helps.

Can you tell me where the crankshaft sensor is located? Would this being bad make it not start sometimes? Sometimes it will start up, other times, not. Sounds like the fuel pump is not running when it...

the crank sensor is behind the crank pulley and must pull off the pulley to gain access to it and it must have the air gap set so the timing slots don`t hit it when the motor is running, this can cause your problem also if the wires rub through by the crank pulley can cause it as well.you say you don`t hear the fuel pump running when it won`t start then you need to make sure that is what is happening as this will cause an intermittent no start(pump works sometimes).do you get a 2 second run pump prime when the key is turned on and a no start then it could be the crank sensor as the computer looks for a crank signal from the crank sensor when trying to start the car.
