Power steering pulley or tensioner pulley?

Take the tension off the belt and then move each pulley by hand . If the tensioner pulley feels rough or makes a noise, replace it. Same goes for the power steering, although the pump may be noisy without the pulley feeling loose.

What makes a belt squeak?

Belts squeak for the same reason tires do when they spin. They are slipping. Something isn't turning as fast as the belt wants it to. On ford it's usually ether the idler sprocket or the tensioner. If you remove the belt and try spinning all of the pulleys by hand.( note the crank wont spin freely) you will usually be able to tell witch ones slipping.

Need to tighten the belt and nothing looks movable. Anyone have a diagram?

it the belt is loose, the tensioner is bad. Its a pulley that should move and has spring tension on it. its a large pulley about 3" in diameter. replace the belt and tensioner.

How do you make the tensioner release to tighten the timing belt?

The belt tensioner keeps the belt tight inside each accessory pulley while the engine is running. The tensioner is made up of a spring-loaded arm. If the spring inside of the tensioner becomes loose then it will not be able to hold the belt properly. And belt will also get loose. The belt tensioner is on the engine underneath the alternator. Its fitted by bolt.To loose the belt you will need drive socket and breaker bar .Turn the breaker bar counterclockwise to release tension from the belt.Remove the mounting bolt at the top center of the tensioner arm.The tensioner arm is loose and will easily come out.If you in-case are to replace the tensioner then place the new tensioner in same place and tighten the bolt which you removed. Before removing or moving the belt check the position of the belt passing from each pulley.so that when you fit the parts there is no problem in fitting the parts.
After its done.Start the engine and see that belt and tensioner runs freely and belt moving from each pulley smoothly.
------------- This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

make sure the tensioner is tight,it has a spring in it to move clockwise,do not leave any bolt loose, make sure you are routing the belt where the tension holds the belt on,not other way.

How do I tell if the timing belt is bad. I have the covers off. The crank timing mark is at TDC. the cam marks are also aligned When I first got the covers off the timing belt seemed loose and I could...

Timing belts are supposed to be replaced in intervals, on this vehicle every 60,000 miles. The timing belt may look good, but they mostly stretch over time. As for the looseness and becoming tight, its because there is different compression tension that pull either way. But to be loose to the point you can spin the tensioner pulley, replace everything (belt, tensioner, idler pulley, water pump)!!

How can i tighten the tensioner pulley for my 1996 eclipse

the tensioner pulley is spring loaded to maintain proper tension constantly.if your belt is loose cracked or frayed, replace it.if tensioner isn't working, replace tensioner assembly.

Timing belt and pulley

1.Your engine has an internal timing chain, not a belt.
Therefore I'm going to assume that you mean the serpentine drive belt.
Common causes for belt to fail is either a mis-aligned or damaged pulley, improper belt tension, or bad tensioner spring (if equipped with spring loaded tensioner) You mentioned a loose pulley but didn't say which one! That's what I'd look at first! Also, make sure that all pulleys have no "wobble" indicating a bad pulley bearing Most common: water pump or idler pulley.
