The drivers' door would not open. later got it open, then it would not close. finally got it to close, but it seems the mechanical locking mechanism is broken. now i can't open the door. the key or remote will not work.

it all depends on what tools you have its not really that at my shop it would probable take 30-40 min to change the struts and 15min to change the links so its would be around 75.00

The easy part is you just need the latch for the liftgate. The hard part is getting to it and opening the liftgate to replace the latch. You should be able to pull the liftgate trim off most of the way with the gate closed and try to manually actuate the latch to open the gate. You may have to go so far as breaking the latch from the inside to open the gate and then replace your latch.

It is probably a bit different on the 4-cyl engines than the V6 engines. I'll assume you have the V6 for the moment since those seemed to be more popular.
On the 3.5L V6, the drain plug is behind the passenger side wheel well and I believe takes a 17mm socket/wrench to remove.

turn the key on then push in on the plungers, also twist and turn them. with the key off the light is on a timer and will not go off right away. if the key is on the light should go on and off with plunger movment.

check for wire rubbing under the headliner bare wire on metal roof panel from the dome lamp harness
