Hi,

$2000??

Are you sure?

Water pump is driven off the timing belt it is about a 4-5 hour job it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to replace the timing belt while it is off you are probably looking at 200-400 depending on the labor rates in your area.

Make sure - The problem is with Water pump. In your model, it can be Crack Radiator.

I would advise you to take your car to some other dealer.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Faulty water pump is the next thing I'd check.
Also backflush the cooling system if you haven't already.
Check to see if you have coolant in the oil. You may have a bad head gasket.

First thing to check is the operation of your cooling fan, and coolant level

After that you should check the drive belt and tensioner, Thermostat and water pump.

You may also need to flush your cooling system

Water pump leaks

Make sure you also replace timing belt with water pump, not an easy task very little room to work in, if done at a repair shop around $500.00. good luck.

The best way is to do a chemical hydrocarbon dye test at the shop.

This can rule out leaking headgasket.
You did not state the odometer reading....a 2002 should has 70,000+ miles.

====
Check the fan relay(s).

Turn A/C on and see is the fan coming on.

Is the fan fully operational?
====
The last odd ball item is the water pump.

In the past,I saw turbine of the water is totally worn out and looks perfectly OK on the outside and shows no sign of leak.

04 PT CRUISER HAS BUSTED MOTOR MOUNT. WHAT IS THE ESTIMATED REPAIR COSTS AND PROCESS OF REPAIR.

Theirs more than one mount and they cost 60 -125 at a parts store Most fair mechanics will just change the front one and send you down the road for less than $200 for one mount. The dealer will reconmend them all and their right if over 100 thou miles and get out $500-800

Describe your 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser timing

Replace the belt at 100k with a new water pump pulley and tensioner. It would not be a bad idea while u r in there to replace the center motor mount. When the mount fails it is a pricey fix not a bad Idea to replace it since you have to remove it to do the belt.

Overheating engine

Check your oil dipstick for coolant, or a mucky substance. Your symptoms sound like a blown head gasket.
