Have you checked to see if you have a bad spark plug or a bad plug cable?

Rattle noise at idle. Gets less as eng r p m increases-97 toyota camry

how is the engine oil ? when was it last changed as old oil is less effective , try an oil and filter change , but a hard rattle as you describe it may be something ,not more serious , but maybe a loose drive belt or some thing that when engine revs increase's it becomes noticable though is still there ,if oil change makes no difference have a good listen around engine also underneath to try to narrow down location , hope this helps keep me posted if you wish

Cam followers don't rattle they tap, so that is not the noise you hear. Have a local shop listen is my best advice here.

2003 Chrysler Town & Country has an intermittent rattle when in gear (drive, maybe reverse too) at an idle. Loose flex plate bolt(s)?

loose flexplate bolts would make noise all the time, wat u got sounds like a rattling catalytic convertor, meaning a worn out cat or cats. u can get under neath an hit on the exhaust pipe near the cats with engine off an hear the rattle ur talkin about. have u noticed a slight lack in power or performance ? another telltale sign of bad convertors. a local exhaust shop can raise car on lift an chek cats, inexpensive chek, expensive repair. good luck

After cranking it idles fine but after about a min. it starts idling really high. I can't find any vacuum leaks. is there any of the controle modules that would cause this ?

Are you sure that this is actually idling high? If you put you foot on the brake, and put into drive, would the vehicle jump?
The reason that I ask, is the cooling fan has a very similar sounding effect, when it kicks in. If this were to be the cause, you would alter it's noise, slightly, by putting into drive, but the vehicle would not jump excessively?

If the vehicle is actually reving high, I suggest paying for a diagnostic, presumeing you have no error codes........ Many things can cause higher idle, many of them NEEDED, they deal with issues like temprature, emissions, some models charging....etc. get an opinion.

Your vehicle, by the way, has drive by wire, meaning there is not actually a pull cable going from the foot pedal to the throttle plate..... So, you need to inquire, programmically, with the computer, typically these tools are too expensive for home use....get an opinion from a good shop, or maybe the dealer.... At least the dealer would also look for recall issues for you...

remove the thermostat and place in a pan of water a boil and wait to see if the thermostat opens , as for the noise , get the thermostat sorted out and see if still makes the noise , could just have been caused by the overheating, one thing at a time so you know what the problem is

Car makes rattling noise when I accelerate or when it is in idle? What does this mean?

Most common cause of rattling noise is a loose heat shield on the catalytic converter.  It's ok to drive in this condition but if the noise becomes too bothersome, you can either remove it or bring it to a muffler shop and see if they will spot weld it or secure it another way.  Don't let them try to sell you another catalytic converter.

1996 Volvo 850 shakes when started and when idling

Sounds like maybe they left something unhooked or accidentally knocked something off. Personally I'd go back & explain, as they know what areas they worked on , and may be able to find it faster.

1994 Corolla rattles when idling and at low speeds.

It amazes me that they didn't at least address the rattling noise, seeing how they probably caused it. If it is just a belt, that's an easy fix. Did you stop at another shop & ask for a quick diagnosis?
Could be something as simple as a heat shield , or something. Doesn't hurt to have a second opinion, and shouldn't cost anything, or very little, then go back & tell them what the diagnosis was.

Overheats, engine rattles when idle and when accelerating, radiator fan doesnt seem to spin

If your engine is rattling,it's TOO hot. Get it checked out immediately, and don't drive it ant farther than the repair shop. You may have already done damage to the engine.

Maybe a fan problem???

What you may be hearing is the timing belt tensioner rattling back and forth because it can't hold it's tension any more. The tensioner will not loosen the belt tension enough to make the belt jump. I changed one on our Trooper and took me 2 hours and I never had to remove the timing belt.
