Question about Jaguar XJ

1 Answer

Hello, I have a Jaguar XJ40 (1990) with an automatic gearbox ZF4HP24. One month ago it put itself on secure mode (light on) then the light was off but no reaction on R position and only 1st gear on D position. After having checked everything, the Jaguar garage advised me to change the gearbox, I did it but the problem remains the same do you have any idea about what can I do? Thanks Alain LE GUEN 56250 ELVEN FRANCE

It is going to be your TPS. I have a 04 a type r that had that exact problem. The only problem is they do not just sell the sensor by itself. The quick and easy fix is to loosen the tps and turn it sligty as and tighten it back up.

GEARBOX FAULT MESSAGE

i had the same problem with my s-type, when i went to jaguar dealer for diagnostic and they told me it was trans problem, need new trans and will cost me $4500 to fix it, so i think you will be better off looking for a salvage trans to put it in your car, it will cost you around $1500-$2500 including labor. i hope that will help some of you with gear box fault massage. oh try and find some one who knows a lot about jaguar before you send the car for trans repairs.

Jaguar X SE 2.5 gearbox problem

hey johnhoile,

Sorry to break the bad new to you, put you most likely need a transmission depending on what codes are stored in the system. I have dont numerous automatic transmission on x-types all they all started with a gear box fault light on.

If the codes have something to do with a incorrect gear ration that is a guarantee red flag for a new transmission

No reverse Jaguar x-type 2003

Check and make sure you used the right type of lube. The reason I say this is a feww years ago i put 90weight in one of mine and it would not shift they are several types of gear lube used nowdays some gear boxes like like automatic tany fluid. Just something to check.
