Yes, too much fluid will give you overpressure in the tranny. If its a ford then you probably don't have a drain plug on the bottom of the tranny. You might have to remove several of the pan bolts on the aft edge of the tranny and let it drain that way.

Change transmission fluid

You didn't say if it is a auto or manual transmission; also what engine you have? On my wifes Honda Accord V6, just drain fluid and re-fill. This will not empty the Torque Converter but what I did was do the drain and re-fill then let her drive until next oil change (3000 miles) and do it again. Hope this helps,

Replacing transmission fluid in standard

The manual transmission in the Ford Escort uses transmission fluid, it is checked and filled in the same hole. That hole is where the speedometer cable is hooked up to the transmission. Remove the speedometer cable, set aside, then remove the locking bolt that holds the speedometer drive unit in place. Pull up on the drive unit and it will come out, look on the side of the drive unit and you will see the level indicator line for full and add. Fill as needed and reinstall the drive unit and cable. Hope this helps, let me know.

Transmission went out this morning due toexcessive leak.

Always check trans fluid with engine running. But its ok to fill to see if you can drive home if vehs trans is slipping you might think about getting it towed. You always have the chance of causing more damage. If you mean by (went out) that its just leaking and is just low on fluid. Yes you can fill and drive but dont let the fluid level get below min. mark on check stick. DRIVE SAFE TIM

I have a 1996 ford ranger how do i put gear oil in my gear box

Im guessing you have a 4x4 well in the rear of the transfer case you will find two plugs that have a square center one is higher than the other the upper one is the fill the bottom is the drain it require u to use the ratchet square drive by itself to remove the plug, now if you are asking about a 2 wheel drive standard transmission its the same thing but located on the side of the transmission, the way to fill it is with a pump container in some cases sold with fluid already in it ask for a pump at the auto parts. hope this helps you..

Changing trans oil and filter on 2005 explorer

Theres a drain plug on the bottom of the pan, you need to get a clean pan and drain the old fluid in the bucket so u can measure how much fluid to put back in the transmission. Remove the pan bolts and the pan and replace the filter, reinstall the transmission pan . In the center of your drain plug theres a star head plug remove it, this is your fill hole for the fluid. You will need a fluid exchanger for the fill procedure if you dont have one you can get one at Napa. With the truck running at operating temperature fill the exchanger with fluid and insert the rubber tube into the fill hole in the drain plug. Slowly fill the transmission with the same amount of the old fluid that you drained out. Reinstall the fill plug and test drive the vehicle and check for leaks.

Just need info about changing transmission oil in 1996 Ford Crown Victoria LX. I'm not familiar with type of Transmission oil to use and how many quarts it holds and location of the drain plug.

You will need to drop the trans pan to drain. In turn you will need a trans filter kit which will include the filter and gasket. As far as fluid, it will require mercon dexron auto trans fluid, and will take about 6 quarts. What I normally do is fill with 5 qts and check, then add half qt at a time till full, which is normally 6 qts.
