I drive a kia sportage and at about 55-65 i start to hear a belt slipping sound. It doesnt start until the speeds mentioned but once reached it continues until i stop driving. if i stop at a stop sign, the sound will cease, once acceleration is resumed it starts up again. what could be this problem?
You need to tighten the belt or replace it.

Replace belt with all the slipping it burns the belt and it loose the grip. a old belt get smooth and will slip again after a while.
