I would have to guess that you put the wires on the starter improperly, and they are either touching the engine block or each other. When you change starters you have to pay special attention to which way the wires are pointing, and which ones go where, or you may have moved them when you put it in. In any event, they have shorted out, and may have caused the solenoid to short, too. If not any of the above, your ignition switch on the steering column must be stuck. Good luck, and let me know how it goes.

You have a short somewhere on the hot battery bus. Start by disconnecting your battery and check the ignition wire for breaks. You can also disconnect the wire on both ends and see if it shows continuity to ground. If so its shorted somewhere. Look at all the hot wires form the Ign switch all the way to your starter. Hope this helps

Battery good, cables good, all connections clean and tight, no corrosion on battery terminals?
Try to determine if click is from solenoid on the starter or starter relay. Turn the headlights on and watch them while someone turns the key to start. If they get dim, probably the starter-have it tested-even new ones are sometimes bad. If lights don't dim, you will need to check the start circuit. Check for power on the small wire to starter solenoid when key is held in start. If no power there, work back towards the ignition switch. Check the neutral safety switch-should have power in and power out when key held in crank. The ignition switch will have a start wire out of the switch going to the neutral safety switch. It should have power with key in start, the only time the start wire will have power.
Post back with what you find-good luck.

Concentrate on the starting circuit: from the ignition switch to the neutral safety switch to the starter relay to the starter solenoid on the starter. If it won't crank, one of these parts or the wiring associated is not working right. Quite often the electrical contacts in the starter solenoid become pitted, slightly burned maybe, and lose contact. If you have power on the solenoid wire when key is held in crank and starter won't operate, the solenoid is the problem.

many things will cause no start problems could have faulty ignition switch.use test light see if power going to starter if not check ignition fuse to starter.if power going to starter, more likely starter solenoid or starter faulty.if ignition fuse okay and starter and solenoid okay still no start problem could be in the ignition switch or inhibitor switch faulty.code scan for faulty theft security system which will also cause no start conditions.

If "tapping" the SOLENOID ever worked... you
HAVE A DEFECTIVE SOLENOID.

Defective is all inclusive... and when "STUFF"
happens (burns up)... it is VERY LIKELY to cause
COLATERAL damage...

(FRIED WIRES & IGNITION SWITCH)
((fix that "STUFF" later)).

At the SOLENOID ... apply "B" battery DIRECTLY
to the "S" terminal of the SOLENOID...

IF it does not fully spin up the starter 100% of the time
the solenoid or the starter is DEFECTIVE.

seems like the start wire is being fed by 12v --check the start wire for shorting to a hot wire ,maybe the at the starter harness connector. With the start wire disconnected check voltage at the start wire end--should have no voltage.Good-luck

the starter should be replaced. The solenoid is kikcing the pinion out but there is no contact being made to turn the starter motor. I have the exact same truck and before i changed the starter used the old starter tap trick. Tap the starter casing with a hammer and it should start turning again. hope this was helpful for you. Good luck.
