head lights work> and all outer things?
i had this problem on my 96 blazer, it turned out to be the timer that turns off the interior lights after 15 seconds, it would turn off the lights but not all the way, it would sit and drain the battery.. an easy way to test for an open circuit yourself:
Connect one end of the test light to the negative terminal of the battery, and the other end of the test light to the end of the negative battery cable, so that the light is now "inserted" into the circuit between the cable and the battery.
Step 3
Check the intensity of the test light. A faint glow is normal and indicative of the small current used to power the cars computer and clock. A bright glow means you have a significant battery drain that needs to be repaired.
Step 4
Leave the test light in place, and begin to remove fuses one at a time from the fuse panel. Check the test light after you remove each one. If the light is on, replace the fuse and move on to the next one.
Step 5
Pinpoint the circuit that is causing the battery drain when you pull a fuse and the test light goes out.
my 97 burban has a dome override button next to light switch that does the same things you discribed look for it and push it if you have one its labeled
You probably have a parasitic battery drain. A good way to diagnose this is to disconnect the battery ground and plug in a light (a head lamp bulb is ideal, drains a lot of amps) in between the battery ground and the ground cable. Now with the key off, door closed (leave the driver door open but close the latch with a screwdriver or similar object) and every accessorie off, the bulb should not light (you'll have to wait a few minutes so all the modules go in sleep mode) After 10 minutes, if the bulb still light, even slightly, you've got you're self a drain. Now to diagnose, simply start with the undehood fuse block and pull fuses one by one until the bulb goes off. That will tell you witch circuit is causing the drain. put the fuse back in and confirm the light goes on again. Then verify what is in that fuse's circuit (wiring diagram realy useful here). You may also go pull the fuses in the instrument pannel fuse block to center in on the faulty circuit. Then you should concentrate on that cicuit to find the drain. Could be a wire or component short to ground or even a faulty connection or ground. Sounds complicated but it's not that hard.
Good luck

Chk. fuse, emergency flashers, and middle break light, and the other break lights are on seperate curcit (a fuse for each), if fuse is ok than it could be break light switch, witch is located under dash on steering colume and works off break peddel arm.
Yes it screws in on right side of tramission and you will need a 7/8 inch deep socket to remove it. You may be able to clean the old one once it is removed. There is a little ball thatgets dirty and may you can get by with cleaning it. Good Luck. Ed
