Question about GMC Sierra 1500

2 Answers

Everything electrical died, and the battery is still good.

I own a 2001 GMC Sierra 1500 4WD 5.3L pickup. I went to turn on the ignition today and as the electrical indications started to come on they instantly died. I now have no radio, no cab lights, nothing. I checked the batter with a volt meter and I have 12.6VDC. What would the issue here be?

Make sure there is no corrosion around the terminals make sure there is no broken wires check all conections and its possible that you have a bad ignition switch

Check and ensure the connections on the battery are tight and try jiggeling the cables if things start to work have a garage clean them up.

sounds like starter motor/solenoid problem, try hitting the starter motor with a hammer , a couple of sharp hits may loosen off the bendix if this is the problem, if starts replace the starter motor

Hey there JC

Could be the batterey, but I'm leaning toward cables or terminals. From your description its acting like the battery isn't there, even when you jump it.

Questions:
  1. When you jumped it, did the other vehicles engine bog down at all?
  2. Do the head lights work?
  3. Is there any evidence of power? even the dome light?
First steps:
  • Test the voltage on your battery
  • Remove, clean and reattach battery terminals
  • Check the battery cables, good connection on both ends? no breaks, wear, anything odd?

Comment me back with your findings, we'll take it from there
