1997 sebring will only start when opening throttle and dies immed

I have a 1997 sebring with a 2.5 and just today it started dying while stopped at traffic lights. upon getting to a gas station it wouldnt start at all. The only way i could get it to start was to open the hood and give it full throttle and the only way to keep it running was to continue giving it throttle. As soon as letting go of throttle car immediately dies absolutely no idle. car check engine light was on for a few days last week but went off and was had been drove daily. car is in a chrysler dealer but before they give me a bogus fix i was hoping someone might know.

DO NOT TOP OFF when you fill up.

Few ounce of gas in the EVAP system will cause this problem.

Move your car outdoor.

Disconnect the hose to the charcoal canister.

Let it vent overnight.

Re-connect next morning.

This should vent all the fuel out of the EVAP system.

DO NOT TOP OFF when fuel up.

No no, this is the exact same problem i was having before. Check your EGR valve, or take it to autozone (your check engine light may be on [should be]) your EGR valve is bad. i can tell you that now. your having all the exact problems i was having before, i changed out my egr valve and now its working no problem, but unfortunatly my check engine light continues to come on saying bad egr flow. so make sure you have your EGR lines cleaned and cleared.

Wants to die when at stops

A lot of things can cause that on those old OBD1 systems. But I would start with cleaning the throttle plate and surrounding area with Carb cleaner, it may just not be getting enough air at idle do to carbine (Muck) deposits around the throttle plate. I would take off air cleaner hose, soak paper towel with cleaner, and open throttle plate and clean back in as far as you can reach, and the edges of the throttle plate. Hope this helps, good luck.

1997 F250 with 5.0 and automatic. suddenly began hard-starting, need to hold gas pedal to the floor while cranking, then runs ragged for a bit. Does OK after that until sits overnight again today it...

Check the fuel pressure.
Could just be bad fuel filter.
But could also be bad pump, dirty mass air sensor, temp, O2, or throttle position sensors.

I have a 97 chevy cavalier with a 2.2 liter engine and an automatic trans. i replaced the head gasket and it ran fine for about a month. Then it suddenly started sputtering and stalling, it also had a loss...

you need to take the car to a muffler shop and have the catylitic converter changed... the converter is stopped up not letting the exaust leave the engine thus stopping it.

2005 chrysler sebring start then dies right

i bought a 2005 sebring and they gave me 2 keys. one grey and thick. the other black and less heavy. the black one will start the car but as soon as i take it out of park it dies. the grey key has a chip in it that sends a signal to the engine. The black one doesn't. it is more like a back up key so that if you lock your other key in the car and it also unlocks doors and trunk.

Dies after starting..

Possibly bad throttle position sensor or other sensor, but most likely throttle positon senosr may need to be cleaned. If you have a vacuum operated actuator on the tranny, you should use a vacuum tester and make sure it is not leaking. Have you changed tranny filter? Did you get a flush done?

Got a 97 Sebring coupe with new fuel pump and

first you will need to find out if you have a fuel regulator... look on the end of the fuel rail on the engine for a round bell shape part with a vacuum line attached, remove the vacuum line and see if there is fuel bubbling from the regulator... if so you found the problem.. if not respond and ill let you know where to go from there. good luck

Oil light turns on at idol, and almost dies at idol has oil

Replace your fuel filter and airfilter. If this doesn't work - you may need a new coil pack or cap and rotor if it has a distributor; if this is the case, change the spark plugs and plug wires.

1991 Dodge Dakota dies when shifting from park

If it runs down highway fine, but just stalls when off throttle, turning, heater on, etc., I'd pull I.A.C. motor off and clean with throttle body cleaner & retry it. Clean port it came out of at same time too. if it cures it even temporarily, and does it again, replace IAC motor.
