Could be oil pump failure. i've seen this a few times on these cars! but won't be able to tell until the motor is diagnosed and taken apart to inspect the failed part. are you sure it is the rod?

that sucks after putting all the money into the car! that must have cost alot of money!

i have also seen bad timing chain guide go and make a hell of a racket from the front of the motor and kind sounds like the rods are bad. seeing you just had it done 4000 miles ago something could have come loose. this is the more possible cause...

if the oil pump was bad you would have had a red oil light on the dash and if that wasn't there i would look at the timing chain and try to pin point the noise more.

good luck and if you have any more question please ask i would be glad to help you more. sounds like you could use a break!.

Does it have timing belt or chain

Both the 1.8 and 2.5 have chains. After the xterria 2003 all nissans have chain camshaft drives. Last sedan with belt was the 1994 Maxima

I have a 2003 Nissan Sentra with the 1.8 liter engine. I have been told that I should have the timing chain replaced but everything I can find to reference says that Nissan guarantees this chain for the...

I would replace it anyways, it's what we call "Cheap Insurance" since we can't see inside the engine we really don't know what the condition of the chain is or what it looks like. Timing Chains do stretch over time. Nissan may guarantee the chain for the life of the car but that's all they will guarantee. They will give you a new chain and if your engine gets damaged from the chain breaking or jumping a tooth that's not their problem. You will have a new chain but a worthless motor. For "Piece of Mind" I would change it and than you won't have to worry about it anymore.

MY nissan sentra spudders when cold. when i start it in the morning it revs up by itself. nisson is thinking it could be the timing chain, i have looked up the symptoms to this and dont think it is that. i...

You are right, if the timing chain were bad it would have the problem all the time , not just cold . This to me sounds like a coolant temp sensor . Hooking up a scan tool that can view engine sensor data , i would check the sensor parameters . most noteably the coolant temp an IAT - intake air temp. after sitting over night these should be very close.
