Four things are needed in order for a car to run, fuel, air, and fire and at the correct time. First of all I did not hear anything about checking the ignition module. You can have this checked for free at most auto parts for free. This will keep you from getting spark and also can be a reason for not getting fuel. If this checks out I would then check to see that I am getting fuel. This car should have a schrader valve (looks like a tire valve) along the fuel rail, after trying to start the car, press down on the valve and see if it sprays fuel. If only a dribble you need to find out why. Is the fuel pump running? you should be able to hear it run with the key on. If not I would be looking as to why not. If not running, I like to take a rubber mallet and give the tank a good wack, this will sometimes get the pump going- but only for a short time. If the pump is running and you still don't have fuel preasure at the rail, change the fuel filter. If you do have fuel preasure at the rail, but not getting fuel at the injector, you may need to change the injector(provided that you have checked the ignition module first) Last but not least, does the car sound like it is turning over faster than normall when cranking? If so you may have broken your timing belt. I think Iv'e covered all the bases- good luck

Start with the EGR valve. It could be improperly functioning or faulty.

depending on the make and model of the vehicle, it will be in different areas, although your local auto part store will be able to tell you where it is. It will be somewhere along the air intake.

I would also check or change the mass air flow sensor.

This problem is common and a very easy fix even for a novice.

Check your fuel line and since you have replaced your spark plugs, you may now check your alternator and see if enough current is flowing.

check the intake system, efi / carb, make sure air and gas is balance

these are just common points that will help you isolate the issue

Could be spark or fuel.
Weak or worn spark plugs, weak coil, dirty injector, and so on.

Hard starting, rough idle when cold, then smooth running when warm

Need year/make/model/mileage of vehicle to provide a more specific set of troubleshooting steps.

When was the last tune up? Hard starts when cold are usually caused by fouled spark plugs, worn plug wires, or weak ignition coils. Fuel systems are not as effected by temperature changes as the ignition components.

Replaced plugs and coil pack on 2001 ford taurus now car will not start

You will need to figure out if you have spark to the plugs, and if not- if you have voltage to the coil to proceed.

I have a 2006 Freestar with a 3.9 Engine . When it is cold it has a miss when i step on it. But it gets better when it starts to warm up. Almost seems like a spark plug miss

Spark Plugs ---change at 70,000 miles
O2 Sensors--change at 100,000 miles (front 2 only)
Gas Filter--every 3 years/30,000 miles
Air Filter ---every 3 years/blow off once every year
MAF Sensor---Clean once a year or more often

Ignition Coils--- most definitely will go bad,at
least 1 a year. (Any Check Lights or Codes ? )

When cold, it isn't in closed-loop, and runs on
Long Term Fuel Trim--not on O2 Sensors ,until
warm

Let it warm up at least 4 minutes in cold weather,
go light on the gas for first 2 miles

97 z-24 rough idol when cold/runs better when warm

The most common problem is a partially clogged injector. They should be cleaned about once a year. Also the coil housing is known for shorting out between cylinders on your engine. The reason that its worse with the AC on is because the AC compressor is adding a load to the engine. You should probably take it to the shop and have it diagnosed soon before the misfire damages the catalytic converter.

2001 v6 escape rough idle when cold

To update my earlier repair on the 2001 6 cyl Escape: When cold, and when the ignition was turned over but no accelerator pressure given, the rough idle finally returned the P0303 code again when the check engine light came on indicating that it wasn't caused by the plugs or the coil. FYI, I had replaced the intake manifold gaskets during the original repair and just prior to that I had replaced the fuel filter which was very dirty (I cut it open to see).

The repair manual referred to fuel injectors as a possible problem. I have run three tanks of fuel using different injector cleaning products and am very pleased with the results. Cold starts are much smoother and I am unable to coax out the P0303 code or any other code.

My opinion, change the fuel filter, use a fuel injector cleaner for a couple of tanks, change the plugs if the problem still exists. The coils were not the problem on my vehicle.

99 taurus running rough smells funny light flashing

The reason the check engine light is flashing instead of on steady is because it is missing bad and the car companies did this to tell you to stop the car as soon as possible to prevent damage. That is the only time the light will flash off and on instead of being on steady.
The cause is a little harder to diagnose. It could be a fouled spark plug, a bad plug wire, an injector, stopped up fuel filter. I can't remember if that car has the distributer or the coil packs but you could have a problem there. If you have never changed the spark plugs or fuel filter, it is well over a hundred thousand miles to do so now. They say to change them at one hundred thousand but 50 to 75 thousand is better and you will get better mileage. The fuel filter needs to be changed every 20 thousand miles now days because of all the cheap gas we have to put in the cars.
This is for mechanics or technicians. If no one out there believes me about the mileage on the fuel filter, then take the filter off and see what comes out the back. Looks like black water to me.
