Clutch has to be pushed all the way down to engage,reverse hard to engage there is no leaking of fluid

Your clutch slave cylinder is bad or going bad.

Number 2 your clutch can be getting all worn out and may be time to replace

make sure the fluid level is very high

I have a 98 Chevy cavalier , it has Manuel transmission, it will only go in 3rd and 4th gear, what could be the problem

It could obviously be the tranny is gone, but you would want to make sure you have enough clutch flood and the clutch is fully engaging. I had a leak in my 98 cavalier clutch fluid, and when it got low, it would not fully engage the clutch, simply making it hard to get into gear. Its DOT3 fluid. If so try reversing a little bit and gently tiring to get into gear. I believe 1st and 2nd gear share the same gear selection fork inside the tranny. Drain fluid and look for metal.

have you checked the hydraulic fluid chamber on the firewall close to the brake fluid area? If it is low the clutch plate may not be engaging for reverse gear.

My 95 ford probe has a hard time going into gear i push the clutch in and try to put it into first i sometimes can but mustly i really gotta force it to go into first and the rest of the gears as well

Sounds like there is likely a master cylinder or slave cylinder leak. These are the two that push the hydraulic fluid to the clutch mechanism and sequentially the slave cylinder after getting the pressure of the forced fluid to it from the master, it forces the rod out of it the move the clutch mechanism so that the clutch engages and disengages the engine/trans.
also check if you have a brake line leak as the brake fluid reservoir shares its fluid with the clutch master cylinder. If enough of the fluid is being drained out of the brake reservoir so that you are pumping air into the clutch slave cylinder, but still have enough in the reservoir to have the brakes working, then you should check that as well. I however think its likely either the clutch master or slave.

When the truck is drvien awhile the clutch doesn't seem to engage all the way. Making it difficult to shift or put in reverse.

Your truck is most likely equipped with a hydraulic clutch system. When you depress the clutch pedal.. how far down do you push before you feel some pressure?..
1. There are 2 main parts to the system. The master clutch cylinder which is located right in front of the driver and the engine firewall.
2 The other part is the slave cylinder which is located on the side of the transmission underneath the truck.

Check the little tank or reservoir on the master cylinder first.. make sure there is plenty of fluid.. If it is low then you have a leak somewhere in the system. If you can pump the clutch pedal a few times and it seems to get better... then your system is bleeding fluid back through. I would recommend replacing both parts at the same time if it comes to this. The parts are not that hard to replace.. but sometimes getting the air out of the system can be difficult.. good Luck..

Transmission leaks fluid. we replaced the gasket but there is still a leak somewhere and it struggles to go in reverse and in 1st. gear

The factory uses silicone sealer on the transmission pans and this is rarely where the leak is, unless someone has tried to replace that gasket before.Most of the time the leak is where the rubber cooler hoses connect to the transmission and the fluid runs down the case behind the solenoid pack and across the front of bell housing and looks like the pan is leaking.Reverse and low gear are controlled by the same solenoid and share a set of clutches.Low fluid is the most likely cause of poor engagement but you could have a bad solenoid pack that could be also causing the leak and or internal damage to the transmission.I would double check the fluid and have diagnostic codes pulled and the CVI (clutch volume index)and get back to me with that info and i will try to give you an isea of what is wrong.

I cannot engage the 1st and 2nd gear while i can hardly engage the 3rd, 4th & 5th gear. However I can easily engage the reverse gear and the fluid reservoir is empty.

Ok I see a manual transmission with a hydraulic clutch.
Get some fluid in that reservoir before you burn up the synchronizers.
Basically your clutch isnt disengaging because you are out of fluid. Next you need to find where the fluid is going. Likely the clutch slave cylinder is leaking and needs replaced. Pretty easy actually if you are handy with a wrench.

Clutch pedal sometimes engages when near floor

Check fluid level on clutch reservoir. Check also for any leaks at the clutch clyinders and lines. if it is low on fluid, or you have to drain fluid, remember to bleed the clutch.Have somebody pump the clutch and turn the clutch bleeding screw until only fluid comes out.

Check your clutch fluid level, sometimes a seperate reservoir (drivers side on firewall), some clutch systems take fluid from the brake system (check brake fluid). If thats ok then the clutch slave may be failing.
If the clutch fluid is low refill it and check for leaks (or just wait till the symptom comes back). If it's happens often then theres a leak in the line or the slave somewhere.
