Well this is a very common problem for these cars and there have been two different fixes that i have found. first is what sounds like is going on with your and the instrument cluster is bad and starting to fail because of a faulty circuit board and will need to be replaced if that is the issue.

now the other one is the vehicle body module and when that goes bad it will not respond to bangs on the dash and usually is just no response from the gauges.

one other thing i have found is a bad plug to the instrument cluster.

either way it comes down to a bad connection and if it is the cluster or body module they have to be replaced , but if it is the harness it can be pin pointed by a wiggle test. remove the cluster but live it plug it to the harness and while it is running wiggle the harness and see if it effects the cluster. if so remove the plugs from the back of the cluster and inspect the pins inside the plugs for damage , corrosion and broke or spread out pins. if any are bad they will need to be repaired and that should take care of the issue.

but until it is diagnosed you won't know.

good luck and if you any more question or help please ask.

You have what is called an electrical short it can be very costly if your not sure why this is happening can be triggred by to many reasons or it can be as simple as you need your instrument cluster changed out it may be faulty electrical items are a pest due to the fact that it can work and than all of a sudden it can be broken. Its electrical all parts go bad and there is no knowing when ?

1998 plymouth voyager 3.3 automatic trans. Lights on dash insterment panel blinking always warning bell for gas gauge goes off continually when the gas tank is full.

probably a crack in the circuit board of the dash panel at the point where it connects to the wiring harness, can usually be repaired by a talented electrical auto tech, or a tv repairman since they have experience with printed circuit boards(which is what the dash panel is). An alternative is to get a replacement dash panel from a junk yard, be sure they check to see if it is cracked, as this is common.

I am assuming you have it back in. If it is still working, I would fasten the plug to something solid to keep t attached. These things can be annoying sometimes especially working under the dash.

1998 grand voyager, sometimes dash works sometimes it doesn't. what can cause this ?

Could be the connector at the back of the instrument panel, or a bad connection in the wiring harness. Could also be a weak ignition switch.

Gauges in my 1998 plymouth neon stopped working when i hit a bump

Sounds like an intermittent loss of power to the instrument cluster to me. Remove the instrument cluster and inspect the electrical connectors on the back of the cluster.

I have a 1996 plymouth voyeur .my dash won't work

There is a relay fuse under the hood. You want to check the relay fuse under the hood then check for a loose connector to the back of your dash. If these are good you'll need to take to someplace to have the ECM checked. This usually cost about $50.00

It can be several things. Te simple one is that the connector behind the cluster is loose. The other is the circut board that makes up the cluster is going bad. Try disconnecting the cluster and re connecting. If this does not work, try replacing it with a sed one from a salvage yard or from ebay.

Guages and insturment panel stopped working on a 1998 plymouth

In the event that you have not completely fixed this problem, I suggest the following: Do a google search for "98 voyager instrument cluster solder" and you will find an abundance of posts regarding the soldered joints on the main terminal connector on the back of your instrument cluster. If the behaviour is at all erratic and unpredictable, or hitting the dash makes the gauges come back to life, then you are about 99.9% sure it is the solder problem. It takes about 8 minutes to remove the instrument cluster (okay maybe 15), and about 2 minutes to remove the circuit board. By examining the solder joints of the main connector with a magnifying glass, you will probably see cracked or corroded solder on them. Briefly reheat each solder joint with a soldering iron to re-flow the solder. Your erratic gauge behaviour should now be history.
