If your having a abs check light on then you will need to have your system scanned with a abs code scanner, go to your vehicle dealer for this service , repairs can also be made there, remember it's brakes which are about safety so if you are unsure of your ability in this area don't risk it , it is not worth saving a buck for sacrificing saftey...

The only way to repair your ABS issue is to have someone with a ABS computer system code scanner scan your system for fault codes, these codes will lead you to are of concern, you can not do this without this step, ABS components are very expensive for the most part, why guess at it when you can be precise... Unless you have a lot of money and time to throw parts at it all day until you get it right, I understand this macho feeling people get from fixing their own cars fact is if you have the proper diagnostic tools and the knowledge you can but if not it is expensive to guess... Some things are better left to the experienced pros....

Thar is an easier way than paying 250.00 especially if you don't mind not having a.b.s. On my 99 vw passat my abs module went bad, my tac didn't work any more plus the abs & brake light was on and the annoying beeping. I spent 75.00 on a diagnostic at the vw dealer for them to tell me the module was bad. I agree completly on having a diagnostic done, because you never really know and just to be safe. Insted of paying 250 for a rebuild or 1200.00 for a new one, I studdied the wiring schematic and came to a conclusion. Thair is a way to trick the e.c.u. into thinking it is working properly. If anyone is interested in this quick solution you can e-mail me, I will send you photos and instructions. Its easy, for someone with a little mechanical skills and compleatly reversable (if you get the money for a rebuild or a new abs module. I will not charge anyone, Im just a regular Joe Schmo who lives pay check to pay check like everyone else. My e-mail address is superbikevoodoo@yahoo.com.

Check the sensor at each wheel for any blockage/grime first. I had this problem with my wife's 99 Passat, and sent my ABS module off to "ModuleMasters" (in Utah, I believe) to be rebuilt. Very easy to remove from the vehicle. Total cost was 250.00 and resolved the light problem.

It depends what's wrong with them
Is it a sensor or the module there are too many parts that can go wrong its not just one part you have 4 sensors 1 in at each tire and so on so on

Have 1992 accord ex with abs , abs light is on and the brake peddle goes nearly to floor before car stops. put a new brake booster and bleed the brakes and pads or good.

the abs and brakes are related, but not brakes are not dependent on abs. you mentioned you got new brake pads and the brake pedal got fixed? if it didnt get fixed, then your master cylinder might be going out, its the only logical thing if you bled your brake pads. about the abs, it stands for anti-lock braking system. what it does is at instant high speed stops, it pumps your brakes very fast to stop your wheels from locking up, which prevents your car from skidding, and allows you to manouver your steering wheel as you are braking. very helpful, but not essential. it is like passanger or even drivers airbags, definately better to have, but not essential. if you dont have money to fix your abs right now, dont worry about it, as at least half the cars on the road, including newer, basic cars are not equiped with abs. another thing, abs is a relative new technology, which became common in the 1990s, which means before that, cars didnt have abs, so if someone says to fix it right away because it is 100 percent dangerous, they are just exagerating. just take a little extra precaution while braking, thats all. on the other hand, if you do have the money to fix the abs, you can start by retrieving the code first using a paper clip:

this will lead you in the right direction. hope this helps, and if you need any help, leave a comment and ill gladly respond. goodluck

ABS light came on as I was driving home. still had brakes. shut off engine and restarted car. light was still on. How far can I go with this light on?

there really is no problem driving without the abs system. it isnt a part of your normal braking system. what abs is does is when slamminng the brakes, usually at relatively high speeds, it pumps your brakes so that the wheels will not lock up and cause your wheels to skid(ABS Anti-lock Brake System). this pumping also lets you manuver while your car is braking. without the abs system, your car will brake with the normal brakes. if it makes you feel comfortable, many new cars(basic cars) dont come with abs as it is considered an "extra." i would recommend fixing the abs if you have the money, because it can be the difference between hitting a car and not, but if you don't, then just take a little bit more precaution when braking. And if someone tells you to urgently fix it because it causes your car to become unstable, don't listen to them. ABS is a relatively new technology(came out in the 90's if im not mistaken) and cars have been around much longer. previous cars didnt have abs and the world was not thrown into chaos because of it. so like i said, if you have the money, you should fix it, but if money is tight, then its no biggie. like passanger airbags, better to have em, but not necesarry. hope this hleps. goodluck

My 93 caravan 3.3 has abs can i disconnect the system, and go regular brakes.no problem now,i bought used a month ago,and afraid of future repair cost,on standard brakes i can fix,but not abs.please help,

Yes this is an acceptable quick fix if you can stand the ABS light on. You now have non ABS standard power brakes. Folks survived without ABS for many years. I personally hate ABS systems.

you have to fix the problem with ur brakes- first check the wiring ,connectors and connection clips to the abs sensors and modulator if looks ok than have truck scanned some auto stores such as auto zone / advanced auto do it for free the code will give u a start point towards fixing ur problem--visual inspection of brakes doesnt always show problem

Both brake and abs lights are on. I've replaced both front wheel hubs, and checked all fuses.cant seem to locate the problem

you have an ABS code in the ABS computer. You most likely damaged an ABS sensor. even after myouo fix this you will need to get the code cleared
NOTE: autozone wont be able to access the ABS computer.

'98 Windstar ABS and traction control lights after getting brakes done

Prior to the brakes being replaced you more than likely had metal to metal contact which can throw metal shavings on the ABS wheel sensors. This metal shavings stick to the road grime on the wheel sensors showing the ABS computer a false reading making the ABS light come on. On Ford Windstars, the ABS light and the traction control light are on the same circuit. A simple (and cheap) fix is to pull the ABS wheel sensors and clean them with brake cleaner or throttle body cleaner. Make sure you dry them well and reinstall. On the Windstar there is one bold holding the sensors to the back of the wheels. I recommend you spray some WD40 on the bold and wait about 10 minutes before removing.
If this doesn't fix the ABS light and brakes, you can have the ABS system diagnosed at a shop for about an hour labor. (Usally about $100)
I have fixed many of these type of problems just by cleaning the ABS wheel sensors. Good luck.
