Question about 1998 Subaru Forester

1 Answer

After driving for a long time especially highway driving at over 100 km/h I have a problem when I get back to city driving (my steering wheel also shakes at those higher speeds too). I will go into a parking lot and attempt to downshift to park and my vehicle starts to make a grinding/seasing type of noise and will barely move. Then when I try to leave and back up it barely moves again and has the same grinding/seasing type noise/feeling. I've brought it in twice to mechanics to get this checked out. They changed the timing belt, tensioner and bearings but it still happens. Could it be the transmission? Thanks. Pam

If its makeing the noise only when you engage the transmission then YES it could be the transmission.
Has anyone ever drove the car in deep water or it sat in a flood. Have the trans. oil changed and look for your self what color is this oil coming out. If it looks at all milky or clumpy the cars trans is in need of rebuilt or replaced.
I hope this helps you.

Hi,

I just got mine Paj Sport, 4D56, AT, RWD. I drove only 350 km but the consumption is pretty low. On the Highway, 2000 RPM, only 6,7 liter !!!! I guess in the mix (city and highway) it will be around 10-11 liters/100 km.

How do i fix low gas mileage. the manual says 11 km city and almost 18 km highway driving. however i only get 5 km city and almost 10 km highway

First, high mileage, older car - loss of mpg.
Second, have you heard of keeping your car in good running shape - meaning doing the maintenance an a regular basis?
Change the oil on time, change the air filter, make sure every thing is working right, make sure the tires are wearing right.
All this contributes to good mpg - but older high milage - loss of mpg.
Can't fix that!
