It could be several things. first, does it smoke on startup, but stop after it runs for a few minutes. This could indicate worn valve seals. Smoking constantly could indicate worn piston rings. Now if no smoke is noticed at all, then it could be more serious. What you want to do is check your radiator coolant and make sure there isnt any oil residue in there at all. The oil could be forced througha crack in the block into a cooling passage and be mixing with the coolant. If this is the case, the excess volume caused by this would cause it to be expelled throught the overflow hose from your radiator cap while you are driving. Causing you to never suspect or see it.

Oil coming from bottom of 1996 ford contour. No leak from the motor

If you have recently had your oil changed, the oil filter may be loose or cross threaded. Also if you have had an oil change recently it could just be spilled oil. Make sure your oil filler cap is on tight and the dipstick is on tight. While you are at it check to see how much oil you have actually lost.If it`s not coming from the engine,i would inspect the oil pan gasket and the oil pan itself may have a hole in it.

My 2004 nissan pathfinder is burning oil. only 100,000 km. what could the problem be?

Its either leaking or burning it---look for any signs of oil in the cooling system or water in the oil---could be a gasket going bad somewhere.

if a leak it has to with that much oil loss show somewhere.

I would if you cannot locate it act quickly and have a mechanic look at it before it becomes major or fatal issue.

Dear Sirs, I own Pathfinder 2006. Recently Oil goes out from MAX mark to MIN mark within 8000 km (5000 miles). My dealer tells me that this is regular consumption which is confirmed by NISSAN officials....

  • Well MAX to MIN on the dipstick is a quart of oil in difference. You need to have the oil changed every 3,000 miles (5,000 miles for a synthetic). I don't think that a 2006 Nissan should burn a quart of oil every 5,000 miles. That seems a bit absurd. For much older vehicles this might be true but for a 2006, much more efficient vehicle, it should not burn a quart every 5.000 miles.
  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

Regards, Tony

I have a 2003 Chevy Cavalier with almost 90,000 miles on it just recently I have noticed it is burning a lot of oil, however I have not noticed any oil leaking no residue on the ground or no smoke. I have...

have you checked the pcv valve ( positive crankcase ventilation ). plugged pvc symtoms-- can contribute to sludging of engine. it will build up pressure in crankcase if plugged. the pressure can blow out seals, it can also force oil past oil rings and burn oil up in engine. shake pcv valve, if it rattles its ok. if all else fails check oil pan gasket and filter also. ive seen holes in oil filters or they are loose. and upon driving, pressure is put on oil and it blows out.

I recently got a oil and filter change now i hear knocking noise

If the oil has been changed, why are you putting more oil into the engine? Does the engine use/burn oil, or have an oil leak? If you have none of these problems, then you may be overfilling the engine which is just as bad as no oil.

03 Mazda 6: Check engine light on, code po174

The oil pressure sensor does not have much to do with the P0174 code so the leak on the gasket is not the cause, usually it is the air mass sensor, or the intake sensor. if you have a leak of oil, this might as well mean that whoever changed the oil did not put the right specs of it and this caused the oil to get through. After some time you will experience that the rpms will reach only certain level and won't go higher. Change oil to the right specs and get the sensor cleaned if not to late or replaced (will be expensive). Gasket change wil be needed as well.

Toyota Paseo leaking oil

Do you have any Leaks on the Ground where you Park? If not, You really need to get that Motor Overhauled. Your Motor is Burning the oil Because ther Rings are Worn out in the Motor and the Motor is Detonating the Oil and Burning it. a Rebuild is the Only Solution.
