Brake shutter on 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee - new rotors and pads

I have the exact same issues as shannonschom and I'm wondering if there as ever a resolution to this. I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee with brand new NAPA rotors and pads. Get the same braking shutter.

I did notice the front left rotor developed strange marks on it relative to the front right. This happened in only the first few miles of test driving and stopping. The right rotor has nice smooth marks on it that go with the grain of the rotor. The from left marks appear every half inch and go perpendicular to the grain, so they look like tiger stripes. I guess if you could 'see' a vibration, this is what it would look like. Now my question is, why.... Caliper? Hub out of alignment so pads aren't making perfect parallel contact? Other?

You got shutter ......do you mean shudder when braking and if so the problem with your brakes are that the pads dont work well with the rotors (dont care what the makers say) just see if you can get your self a set of PRIME disc pads and fit them to the front and make sure that the whole unit are bolted on tight and no movement in wheel bearings....

Why squeaky brakes on jeep

front or rear.??? my guess front.... wild guess.
if car has pads with the noise makers this is normal and the early warning.
if pads are thick (why not look first???) and squeal.?
  1. this is normal all disc brakes squeal, can and will if they want to.
  2. or has missing anti-squeal shims on pad due bad mech. serv.
  3. or not using anti-squeal glue on back side of new pads.
  4. if in a perfect world they can in fact squeal.
if you have new rotors and pads and all above is good. they may not squeal. the rotors can be tad bump and the pads will resonate to this rotor surface, its harmless this. only annoying.

other factors, why not do a full inspection of the pads and rotors
first and not just guess and wonder.
like:
OMG:
  • Cracked rotors
  • leaking DOT 3/4
  • calipers guide pins seized.
  • Pads shot
  • missing parts, the FSM shows all parts as does jeep parts page.
  • rotors shot , worn illegally thin, warped, or just ugly bad and old.
this is what we call SOP
standard operatiing proceedures.

How to stop the squeaking in the rear of my jeep?

The noise could be connected to the parking brake, or it could be a loose brake pad. When you engage the brakes the pads strike the rotors and then can not move around.

HOW TO CHANGE brakes on a 1996 jeep grand cherokee. I get the 2 bolts off but I can not seem to get the calipers off. What am I missing?

The rotors are grooved and you need to spread the brake pads from the rotor with a screw driver, if the caliper doesn't move, open the bleeder valve and spread the pads from the rotor, then you will need to bleed that caliper

The ABS Light and msg cnter on 2005 Jeep cherokee is coming on.

You have to check you brakes yourself or take it to the shop, I had a brake light on and once I change the rotors and brake pads the brake light went off.

Feels exactly like warped rotors only its not.

Yes, a loose caliper could cause pulsing brake pedal.

I guess it's possible for malfunctioning ABS sensors to cause this problem. If the sensor is sending a false signal that the wheels may be locking, the brakes would start "pumping".

check with a parts house and see if both vehicles have the same part # for rear rotors. If they do you will be fine. Don't try "adapting" stuff in brake systems...It's difficult and dangerous. Rotors even new are not that expensive!
