Take it to auto parts like oreillys or auto zone ask them to let you borrow a code reader small computer that reads cars codes plug it under steering wheel turn on key on car only turn device on follow directions on it if there is something wrong with car it will apear on device also when you take it to get inspection i dont know if you have same laws like us here in texas have to have inspection stickers every year if the machine reads something wrong on your car even with check engine off it means he just reseted computer but problem was not fixed eventually it will come back on later most common thing when light comes on 02 sensors.

Either he removed the bulb or by some coincidence the buld blew just now either way the check engine light is not working since it is supposed to go on for a few seconds when you start the car hove it checked by another mechanic for codes

You are right to be suspicious. the ses light and cel (check engine light) is supposed to come on and then turn back off when you first start up the car. since it's no longer lighting up i to would be lead to believe he possibly unplugged that light altogether. i would take the car to another mechanic or possibly a dealer and tell them about your suspicions. if they find that your other mechanic did in fact unplug the light then consider taking him to court, or at the very least report him to the better business bureau.

The check engine light should come on when the key is in the on position. If it does not, you may have blown the bulb or the mechanic may have pulled the bulb out. I would take it to another mechanic to have it check out.

I have a 2004 Oldsmobile Aleroand I would like to know what needs to be done to fix the service vehicle soon anti-lock and trac off light from coming on

First you'll need to take it someplace to get the computer checked for trouble codes. The codes will tell you or a mechanic what to test.
If the check engine light comes on, it will also turn on the other warning lights even if there is no problem with trac or ABS.

My check engine light blinks for my mercury cougar at idle at every stop light, stop sign, everything as soon as i stop or put it in park it starts blinking whats wrong?

Usually when your check engine like is blinking it means you have a miss fire. You can go to Auto Zone and have them pull the codes and it will tell you what cylinder is misfiring. ( if you want to only fix that one miss).

How to reset service vehicle soon light

It isn't an indicator of the car requiring a service, it is telling you that something is wrong with the car and it needs to be seen to. You can either take it to a local auto parts store and they will scan the engine code for free to tell you the issue, or you can take it to a dealer (and they will charge you for the same thing, but will also be able to fix it).

You can 'turn off' this light by unplugging your car battery for at least 30 seconds, but it is unwise as it is trying to tell you that something has gone wrong

ABS/SERCICE ENGINE SOON/TRAC OFF LIGHTS ARE ON

Are you sure of the lights? If it is Service VEHICLE Soon, in addition to Trac Off and Anti Lock, it is most likely one of the four wheel hub assemblies. These are sealed bearing units that feed a signal to the computer for the ABS brakes and the tire pressure system. I had one go out intermittently (seemed to be aggrivated by humidity/moisture). I had it replaced, and another one is going out. It seems like they are a bit prone to failure. My Century has 101K, and I experienced the first one around 75K miles. Unfortunately, to tell which one is failing requires a scan tool above and beyond the simple one that most parts stores use. BTW, there was a problem that was fixed just prior to 2002 that was caused by the signal wires going to the left front wheel hub being worn through and shorting. I believe this problem was fixed by 2002.
