NO. the only thing it will do is extract money from your wallet. use a good quality air filter, thats it. Not only will a K&N filter not save gas, it actually lets dirt through.

You know the answer

The shop put the problem in there

Retrace their work

Loose Air Filter box cover & unmetered air
entering the ducting

Now the MAF Sensor can't get a correct read on the
incoming air flow

No reason to have to pay someone to install an air filter
or even a battery

Ask a neighbor for help next time & save money & know
you did the job correctly

Gas consumption sport trac 2008

Only the air filter would come into play, if you
have created vacuum leaks in the ducting & thru
unmetered air

Maybe unrelated issues you have there before

The upstream O2 Sensors could be replaced at
100,000 miles & you could look at fuel trim on a
road test

Need new spark plugs every 3 years

Clean the MAF Sensor

1994 Toyota Camry XLE replaced fuel pump & filter car starts & idles but boggs out and cuts off when pressing gas pedal?

have you pulled codes or checked the fuel pressure? It could be a host of things, like a clogged air filter restricting the flow of air into the engine, a bad air meter, clogged injectors, etc. Engine codes will help you start narrowing things down.

Has the engine air filter ever been changed?

Check if you have any errors saved in the computer. Some shops would let you borrow their scanners. Any saved error may help you accurately diagnose the problem.

You may want to spray some carb cleaner in the intake to clean out the sensors and the intake manifold while you have the car revving. Any dirt may cause incorrect reading in the system and higher consumption.

Correct tire pressure is also a factor in fuel mileage. Other than that the manner of driving. Quick acceleration and a heavy right foot are common causes of poor mileage.

Sounds like you got a tank of bad gas. That would easily cause your issues. Start by draining as much as you can, put a can of Seafoam in there, add a few gallons of fresh gas, drive to the gas station and tank up, and run that tank down until your gas light comes on before adding more. You may end up needing a fuel filter or plugs again, but with minimal run time on the bad gas, you'll probably be fine.

Hesitation on take off and a miss while goin down the road in my 1994 2.3l ford ranger

Start with a complete tune-up

Plug wires can cause this.

Do spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, rotor cap, spark plug wires, fuel filter, air filter, oil & oil filter.

People often neglect these simple things which could save your motor, maintain it's efficiency plus improve gas mileage.
