I had to do this on my Aurora. Easy to install, but I couldn't get the starter out of the way. Locate the part on your engine and see if you can get to it - just one bolt holding it in.

The issue is this though, once you install it, you need to run the engine through a "learn" cycle. I didn't have the tool to do it, so I would have had to take it in anyway.

How to find the location of a crank sensor for 1998 mercury villager

The sensor is always located on the outside outside of the crankshaft on the body of the engine. you will see wire connection on the body. The sensor fits to the gears of the crackshaft and if not visble then you will have to remove surrounding fiitings to get to it. easier to see fron underneath the engine.

Service engine soon light blinking /car backfiring and missing

If your check engine light is blinking, you can take your car to Autozone, Advanced Auto or other parts house and ask them to get the engine codes. This ios a FREE service. It sounds like your camshaft positioning sensor, Cam Positioning sensor is bad. This is how comuterized systems tell where the cam and crackshaft are to set the timing. It sounds like you have timing issues.

Replace the Airflow Meter, then take off all those parts you put on. If you have a scan tool, the long term fuel trim is probably %25+Which is definately an airflow meter, but it's definately worth trying it anyway, they've had such a problem w/ them you can get one for under $100 easy.
