For a V-6 engine, it would be in the front, on the bottom.
For a 4 cylinder, back side of the engine on the passenger side, half-way down.
Easiest way to reach both is to get them from underneath the car.

If you turn your steering wheel to the left as far as it can go and go to the FR (Front Right) tire you will be able to see it from there.

SOURCE: oil in where the spark plugs go on a 1998 mercury

Check your oil level. You could have a leaking gasket or you could have way to much oil in the crankcase. Remember add the right amount of oil and not too much because as it gets hot oil thins out and expands and it puts a lot of presure on the gaskets and seals.

Were is the oil filter @on a 1997 mercury mystique gs

Although i do not know the exact location for your car, in most cases the oil filter will be directly below and slightly to the side of the exuast. It should close, just directly below where you pour the oil into the engine. It should similar to a can of soda. Hope this helps
