Question about Dodge Stratus

1 Answer

We own a 1996 Dodge Stratus and the check engine light is coming on. After changing all the spark plugs the light went out. The next day the light comes back on. While driving on the freeway the speedometer went down to 0 and when I gave the gas peddle gas the engine ribbed up while it was slowing down. (as if it was in neutral). Pulled over turned engine off. Waited about 1 hr turned the ignition key and it started up and the light was back on again. When in idle it shakes and there is times it asks like it jerks.

I need to correct above to a 2006 Dodge Stratus. The car is in the shop and they done a compression test - 3 cylinder valves are 160 lbs., number 4 is showing 60 lbs. Car has less than 99,000 miles. Also has an exhaust leak they are reparing.

When the mechanic put the car up on the lift the check engine light was off. When he was looking at the exhaust leak it started miss firing and when they brought the lift down the check engine light was back on.

They have flushed injectors & valves. What else can be done so the check engine light will go off?

The only way to tell why the check engine light is on is to have the engine codes read with a scanner. This will pinpoint exact problem location. It will also have to be shut off and reset with this scanner. Many part stores will do it for free.

The light will only come on if their is a bad sensor or circuit.

I have dodge stratus 2004 engine light keeps coming on I have change all spark plugs cables and ignition coil and it still says miss fire 2

Check that spark plug to make sure it isn't getting fouled inside the cylinder. Also, make sure the boot on the end of the ignition cable is intact and doesn't have any oil on it. You can check for a spark leak by driving into a dark area and, with the engine running, spray water on the spark plug cables. You'll see sparks if there are any spark leaks.

2006 durango will not start

I would check for spark first with a spark plug tester. They are about $10 bucks and very easy to use. Then check all spark plugs for massive wear, and then check all spark plug wires for breaks or burn holes from motor. If not any of these, then I would check to timing belt. Once you diagnose these things, get back to me and we'll go from there. Good luck. P.S. Did the check engine light ever come on?

Take it back to where you got your spark plugs installed and see if you have a bad plug or if it was installed wrong.

My 2000 Stratus wont start either

if your check engine light does not go on when you have the key on engine off then you should check first the fuse box for the shut down fuse under the hood next to the battery if the fuses are ok then check the shut down relay on the cover of fuse box you can see which is the shut down relay remove the relay and with a test light connected to ground with the key on engine off you should have to terminals turn on your test light if not then your problem could be pcm if you get light on two then check for the relay it may be faulty but your check engine light should turn on when you have key on engine off good luck
