So if I take the exhaust crossover pipe out will I need to buy gaskets? also if choose to go the other route are you saying 13 flex 1/4inch drive?

thanks tedpineywood, I'm leaning towards removing the cross over.

It seems it would be alot easier for cleaning the thermostat gasket and repacement and I could use a socket to loosen the bottom bolt.

The bottom bolt only needs to be loosened not taken out. they are tough, but you can do it.

snap-on tools makes a obstruction socket for this application, but sears has a complete set for the cost of just 1 from snap on.But if you use a 80 tooth ratchet instead of a 32 you should be able to have just enough to brake it loose then use socket, extension, flex, extention, flex, and another extention then your course tooth ratchet

I was wondering about the position of my thermostat on a 2000 buick park ave, and the size of the bolts thats holding my thermostat housing together? I recently had someone take it out because it wasnt...

3.8 liter?

The thermostat will be installed with the spring part going into the engine. It really doesn't matter how the thermostat sits in the opening unless you have a thermostat that sits horizontal instead of veriticle. If this was the case the thermostat would likely have a small opening or hole in it which would sit at the 12 o'clock position. This hole will help bleed the air out of the engine once you start to refill it with coolant.

The bolts heads are usually a 10mm or 13mm.

Hope that helps. If you have any more questions I'll be happy to help.

What size socket 4caliber bolts on 97f150 4x4 4.2engine

Even Ford uses metric sockets for some bolts. I start with both metric and standard sockets then use the smallest tightest one that fits on without being forced on with a hammer. I have had better luck breaking the bolts loose with 1/2" drive sockets and a flex handle breaker bar then use the rachet after the bolt is loose.

Trying to find thermostat can you help

Not Familiar with vehicle but can give you some basic info. The Thermostat could be on top or bottom of engine. It is in a bell shaped housing, follow the Hoses from the Radiator. If you get heat when the Engine shows warm and you don't overheat it's not the Thermostat. If your not getting heat check the level of coolant first. If coolant is low you wont get heat or low heat.If your overheating it could be other problems,Blown Head Gasket.Clogged Radiator, insufficient coolant.Good Luck.

1987 Chevy SS Monte Carlo. What tool do you use to remove the valve covers?

Sockets and rachets. If you can't get a socket and rachet on the bolts, then you will have to use a closed end wrench or a box wrench sized perfectly to the head of the bolts.

How to change the battery on a 1999 Chevy Lumina LTZ

You will need an extra long extension for your socket wrench. Or you can just stack a few small ones together. You will have to extend your reach from above the battery.
Be careful not to touch the positive post when your socket is on the bolt. Good luck

My heater will only blow cold air. I thought that my thermostat needed changing but How do you get to it without tearing everything apart? Please, I need some help... This isn't the 60's models that I'm...

if it's a 3.1 liter good luck. me being a skilled mechanic can get it out fairly easy, by just taking the top housing bolt out with a socket and the bottom with a wrench. then you have to be easy and turn the thermostat a certain way to get it out. if not you'll have to pull the exaust cross over pipe to do it.

Where is the thermostat located on a1999 lumina v6?

Grab top radiator hose, and follow back to engine. The part the hose is clamped to is the thermostat housing.
Remove the hose, and 2 bolts for the housing and the thermostat is revealed.
