The amber ABS warning light is telling you that there is a problem with the ABS system. When the antilock brakes don't work you just have good old fashion non antilock brakes. When the red brake warning light is on it could be a couple of things. (unless you are talking about the brake light on the back of the car is stuck on) the red brake warning light on the dash tells you when the parking brake is on and it also tells you when there is a problem with the hydraulic system. Some cars will also turn this light on when the brake fluid is low, (not sure if the Cavalier does this)

The ABS system is computer controlled and needs to be scanned for trouble codes to diagnose the problem.

I can't say I have ever heard of a "brights" indicator flashing, Do the headlights go bright and dim as it is flashing? Is it a slow on and off like a turn signal or faster than that?

On occasion an ABS light will come on when a brake light is out. So check your brake lights first. Your ABS light is on because there is a malfunction in the ABS system. Is your brake warning light and your ABS warning light both on? This would be an indicator of a major malfunction in the ABS system. Stop driving the vehicle and fix this immemorially. If only your ABS light warning light is on this will not effect normal braking but the ABS system is disabled while the ABS warning light is on. You still need to have it repaired but you still have brakes for the moment. Now the code for this fault will be stored inside the ABS memory module. So you pinpoint this with scanner. Abs light on means the ABS sytem has a fault.
You can determine what is wrong by counting the flashes (they say) and then put the data in on the web.

IE abs, windstar, failure, 3 flashes.

The brake light on is most likely picking up on uneven brake pressure, or a failing master cylinder/
You may not feel any difference yet, give it a little time, feel for a pedal fade at a light.

I have a 2000 Audi A4 and the break wear sensor warning light come on for me too. It does not flash and is orange in color. I have asked the Audi dealer twice about it and they told me it's because the previous owner put aftermarket break pads on it, thus messing up the sensors. I don't know about the ABS warning and other than that I wish you luck on it.
