You need to give us the year make and model. The properties that control transmissions are different according to the manufacture.

Have the vehicle towed to a transmission repair center like aamco or your local dealership. This may be an internal fault with the transmission gears and or electronic valve circuits. It will need to be checked with special equipment.

I have a 2002 chevy suburban. 2wd 1500LS. 5.3L. While driving on highway last night transmission failed. parked and turned off. Disconnected battery, checked fluid. Restarted and it went into gear but only...

Not enough information to go by, so for starters, check the transmission fluid level, check for engine code(s), check for defective O2 sensors, check for defective catalytic converter, check for blown/missing fuse for transmission, check for defective transmission switch. When was the last time the vehicle had a tune up? Was the vehicle serviced, how recent (might have a loose connector)? Is the gas cap serviceable? These would be where I would start looking, then worse-case-scenario might be a bad transmission. Otherwise, the information given indicates that the vehicle went into limp mode.

Transmission pump failure?

You may need a tranny or vacuum modulator that controls the shifting of the tranny. You may also need a new filter. Did the fluid smell burnt? That\'s alot of miles if original tranny.

Looses power when i get to 50 mph

first try replacing the fuel filter.when they are restricted with contamination you loose power and top end suffers. The filter should be replaced every 2 years on light travel, but if you do high mileage, replace every 12mnths.
Of course if the vehicle is loosing power but the revs are still climbing, you may have a low fluid level in your auto transmission or a fault with it.check the level with the engine running while in park.Hope this helps,or get back to me with your findings.
