Having charging problem. Replaced alternator and belt, could the problem be a ground to frame issue?

It could be but more likely it's a bad fuse or wiring

We replaced the alternator and the battery and the belt tensioner but charging system light still stays on


There are two things that generally cause a battery warning after an alternator replacement. The most common is a loose connection either with the control plug (aka “relay” plug-in), charging line connection, or the ground. The other is a blown fuse or defective connector or relay, which could have been broken or shorted when the alternator was installed or on the first start-up after its installation.
You can check that the alternator is supplying enough power by starting the car and disconnecting the battery. If the car dies, the alternator isn't working properly (or a wiring/relay/fuse issue).

Instructions
    • Remove the negative battery cable from the battery by loosening the 8 mm terminal bolt until you can pull the cable from the battery. Position the cable so that it can not accidentally make contact with the battery terminal.
    • 2Apply the parking brake and block the rear wheels using wheel chocks. Raise the front of the Escape until the wheels are off the ground and position jack stands under the front sub-frame.
    • 3
    • Remove the serpentine drive belt rotating the tensioner arm counterclockwise until the belt can be slipped from the pulley. Allow the belt to drop onto the remaining pulleys.
    • 4Slide under the vehicle and unplug the electrical connector plugged into the back of the alternator. Unbolt the main charging cable by removing the 13 mm nut that attaches it to the charging stud on the back of the alternator. Remove the 10 mm bolts that attach the alternator to the engine and lower the alternator to the ground.
    • 5Bolt the new alternator into place on the engine and torque the attaching bolts to 35 ft-lbs. using a torque wrench. This prevents distortion of the alternator housing, caused by over-tightening, and premature alternator failure. Attach the charge cable to the charge stud and tighten the 13 mm nut to 18 ft-lbs. to prevent damage to the internal wiring.
    • 6Remove the jack stands and lower the vehicle to the ground. Reinstall the serpentine belt, and reconnect the battery cable. Start the engine and confirm that the alternator is charging.

the problem indicates a faulty voltage regulator or dead short in a wire from the alternator
after the first alternator you should consulted an accredited auto electrician to check the system properly

wow, some writeup-the voltage should be checked at the back of the alternator and the battery at the same time-if the pos post on the alternator reads 12.4 resting, that's what it should read at the battery too-and if it reads 14.4 volts running, at the battery, the alternator should read that too-if it does not (alternator reads 11.8, battery reads 12.40 it is the alternator. If the alternator reads 14.4 and the battery reads 12.4, the issue is wiring or the ecm is not allowing current to flow to the battery-there is an internal regulator in the alternator, but the ECM, if defective, can cause your issue. Check for relays or fuses that might be bad first, but it sounds like your ECM may be the problem and now you probably have another alternator issue which will have to be corrected first-then check the resting and running voltage at both places, and go from there. Testing an alternator off the car only proves it is good (or bad) off the car-therefore you need to determine what changes when mounted, and it can only be wiring (harness) , or control (ECM)

I have an issue with with my alternator belt shreading and having to get a new battery every 3-5 months after the original alternator has been replaced.


ALTERNATOR DRIVE BELT TENSION COULD BE LOOSE WHERE BELT IS SLIPPING CAUSING BELT TO GET TOO HOT BURNING CAUSING BELT SHREADING ALSO CAUSING POOR BATTERY CHARGING CONDITIONS.HAVE THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP ADJUST ALTERNATOR BELT TENSION.

I have a 1989 honda accord exi , its either the alternator or a bad ground somewhere , how do i determine if its a bad ground running down my battery , or if its my alternator


You can follow the ground from the battery to the frame. Cleaning the connections to the battery and the frame including making sure the frame is bare metal where the ground bolts on will usually fix a ground issue. If your alternator is bad it won't charge the battery. But it won't drain your battery. An easy way to test your alternator is to start the car, and remove the positive battery cable. The vehicle should be able to run off of the alternator with no lights on. Hope this helps

what you are experiencing is that due to bad battery cable connection along with a weak to low charge return from the alternator either from a lose belt on the alternator or just being there is not enough return charge voltage going back to the battery area to suffiencently feed to ECM and transmission control voltages to keep the engine computer and the transmission from going into shut down mode from lack of voltage you need to clean and secure all cable connections also check the alternator for sufficent charging ability as well as check the belts for tightness and slipping to insure safe driving
