Question about 2003 Volkswagen Jetta TDI

VW Jetta GLI Drivers Side Door Lock

I've read this similar issue on several postings but I don't think that I've really found the solution. My key fob will not lock the drivers side door but will lock the other three - horn will not beep. If I manually lock it from the outside with the key, I'll get the beep but the fob will not unlock the door but will unlock the other three. Mystery. Is this a fob issue, or a switch issue, or what? It's driving me crazy! Help! Kashton

Thanks for your comment XB103 but there is not a recall from VW for this - I'm on my own. Anyone else have any ideas on this?

2001 jetta door wont open when i unlock it

hi

it sounds like the lock or module is faulty

you will have to remove the inside door trim and check to see if any thing has come off or if anything is broken

if it all looks intact and its not responding to the inside lock or maybe just the outside key

then it sounds like the lock is faulty or something attached to the lock

the door lock is probably faulty.the switch you are looking for is a microswitch built in the door lock.you need to replace the complete door lock.

Key stuck in jetta door lock

Cheapest way is to get a second hand one with a key from a breakers you will have a different key for the lock. The mechanic probably can't give you an estimate because he will get a genuine one from V.W. with the V.I.N. of your car so the same key will fit both door and ignition. This will cost a lot V.W. new part's are expensive

Key will not go into ignition, drivers door lock stopped working

I have solved the problem with the help of others who post earlier comments who had a similar problem. I read that the tang at the entrance of the tumbler sleeve that receives the key is plastic and that by using a small sturdy screw driver you can bend the tang in. I was then able to insert the key. I plan on having a new tumbler sleeve installed in the near future.

2001 VW Jetta 1.8L - Front RH Door Lock won't lock

I have a similar issue on a 2001 Jetta sedan. jandkat seems to be talking about the old system that VW used (pre-1998). To my knowledge there is no vacuum-based locks in the 2001 models. I've had the door completely apart and there are defiantly not any vacuum hoses. The only 100% for sure fix I have found is to replace the door latch mechanism. There are some other options but I'm not sure they would completely fix the issues you are having. Now for the bad news: you can only get this door latch mechanism from VW dealers. I have yet to find a place online or elsewhere that carries them. They are around $185 for the latching mechanism and if you don't want to install it, be prepared to pay another $200 or so in labor. If you do want to do it yourself, here is a great site that has step-by-step how to take a VW door apart: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1015107

Hope this helps

2003 Jetta TDI - Door locks open fuel door

Look for a short in the wiring harness in the door. The wires from the door lead to the convenience module (controls the doors and windows and some other settings including remote fob) that is under the dash. It sounds like some wires are crossed. VWs are also notorious for having problems with window regulators. They make the windows go up and down and are in the doors. Something might have happen to that and it cause a short. VW just extended the warranty on the window regulators to seven years because of these problems so you should be able to take it to a dealer and not get charged (this is in the U.S. at least, don't know about the rest of the world). The extended warrranty was not limited to original owners but you might want to ask the service people about it first.
