Question about 2000 Ford Expedition

1 Answer

In Aug 05, at 75K miles, my 2000 EB Ford Exp took it to dealer b/c differentail was leaking. They verified the leak was coming from the pinion. Therefore, the complete rear axle, pinion and differential were redone. Now at 133k miles I have a leftrear akle seal leak and the differential has grease around the underside, mostly in the back of it (which it may be the pinion leaking again). Is this normal wear and tear for this vehicle after 58K miles of use from the first service? Thanks.

I have a 2000 ford windstar. its leaking fluid like crazy. It goes thru a quart a day. To me its coming out the passenger side underneath. I was thinking it was the boot on the rack an pinion. what could...

I am deducing that you mean steering fluid. If it is a power steering model I would suspect a split hydraulic hose with that fast a leak.

Incidentally the 2000 Windstar has had a lot of recalls, including the steering linkage, so I'd have that looked at as well.

Freon leak 2004 ford ranger

The shop saying there was a Freon leak should have other ways to diagnose a leak other than a dye test. If they charge it & it leaks out.......YOU BOUGHT IT. The diag should be done in one visit.

Power steering fluid leak on my 2000 ford explorer

Most likely the seals on either the pump or the rack and pinion. Could be a leaking hose between the two. Might be a loose or leaking hose connection at the pump or at the rack and pinion. If you lose the fluid in a short period of time it shouldn't be to hard to find the leak, and you are also smelling it burn when it hits the the exhaust pipes. Refill the system and with the engine running have someone turn the steering wheel back and forth while you look at the pump, lines, and at each end of the rack and pinion. you WILL find the leak.

what is the missfire code, has the recall been done for the leaking heater core coolant hose? the leak drips onto the passenger side ignition coil and shorts it out and causes a missfire.

Check engine light

low power steering fluid wont but low power steering pressure can. there is a switch in the rack that sends messages to the pcm.the switch can be replaced separate from the rack.if the rack is leaking it needs replaced but if the switch is leaking it can be replaced separate.

Pinion seal leaking

check your rear diff vent if pluged clean it out and clean up the pinion seal.sometimes if the leak is caused by pluged vent and has not been leaking long once vent is clean sometimes the leak will stop.there is not a specific torque amount because it is rotational torque(how hard to turn pinion).there is a crush sleve on the pinion and if torqued too tight or too loose brg preload will be wrong and brg damage could result.mark and remove drive shaft.remove rear wheels, brakes, axles.so when turning pinion you dont have any drag from brakes or axles.mark the position of the yoke on the pinion.remove yoke, replace seal, reinstall yoke be sure to replace pinion nut.tighten nut until it takes the exact same amount of force to turn pinion as before taking original pinion nut off.hope this helps.
