Question about 2001 Chrysler Sebring

Oil preasure light comes on

My 2001 sebring 55000 mi has oil light come on after car warms up and it is at idle as when waiting for a light. when the gas is hit light goes off. Is this an oil pump problem or sensor. Oil level is normal.

Your oil sensor may be faulty, or your may have a leak since you said the fluid level is okay.

HI' If you don't have a oil pressure gauge try replacing oil pressure switch they go out a lot make sure you get one from dealer aftermarkets don't work,also normally you can tell if is your oil pump the engine when idle on stop light will star making clonking noises that is a sing of bad oil pump

The oil light comes on when the car gets warmed up and is in idle, about 600rpm. Any slight increase in rpms and the light goes out. Oil level is OK. The car has 166,500 miles. Should I worry about this?


YES. You dont say what engine you have? but the 2.7L HAS LOTS OF PROBLEMS. there were some problems with oil sending units for these cars, oil sludging, and timing chain. Have the oil pressure verified with a mechanicl oil pressure gauge, if its low, think about trading it in on another car.

Oil level is low or the sensor is bad for oil level.

2004 chrysler sebring idle speed is too slow. HOw


why do you want your rpms higher while idling? you don't want them high because your gas bill will reflect that. slow shouldn't matter but if it's dying while on idle it could either be your mass air flow sensor or your fuel filter being clogged

E2200 oil light comes on when cold then goes off after warmed up. The oil level is good


try replacing oil preasure switch, if light still comes on then have oil preasure checked , (when cold) may need oil pump if presure is low, if you caught problem early you wont do any engine damage, again start with the switch .hope this helps.

How much is oil pressure supposed to hold


10 lds at idle when cold but after buildup of preasure. This will change with oil temp. r.p.m. and engine wear. Low oil preasure is usually the result of engine wear but not a fault in an engine. If the oil light fliker's at idle when warm then the engine is excessavely worn and will soon cause problem's if the oil light stays out when warm at idle then its nothing to worry about.

I have a 1998 Jeep Cherokee with a 4.0L engine. The oil pressure gauge usually stays around 40 on the highway but when I come to a stop it drops down to 10. Is this normal or is my oil pump getting ready...


No this is normal. As an engine wears then oil preasure will be less this is not due to a weak oil pump but wear in crank shaft bearing's. When an engine is new and bearings are tight then oil preasure wont fall a lot from reved up to idle as the engine wear's oil escapes quicker from the crank shaft bearings. Reved up oil preasure increases idle it drops off. If the oil light stays out then their is enough preasure to lubricate the engine. In fact in an older engine high oil preasure is a worse complaint as this means the oil system is clogging. All is ok with your pump. If the oil preasure is moving up and down at constant rev.'s then the oil pump is faulty. Hope this put's your mind to rest.

Oil light,


There is the possibility the oil sending unit might be bad, but it is more likely that the oil preasure drops to a dangerous level when the engine is warm and the oil thins out. It would be advisable to take it to a shop and have them check the oil preasure with a remote preasure guage just to be sure before it could cause major and very expensive damage.
