I have an x reg mark 4 golf 1.4. it keeps cutting out on me either when i break or have the clutch down. anyone know what the problem is and how much it will cost to resolve?
the car also doesnt let me go past 1000 revs when i first start it up, so im shunting for a while. i have to keep reving the engine in neutral for about 5 minutes. anyone know of the problem?

Fuel pressure problem, O2 does not send info to ECM during accelaration so cant be that, catalytic converter doesn't cause check engine light to come on, try changing fuel filters
There is no need to cut wires, you just remove the old one by disconnecting the connectors. If you start cutting, you'll just destroy the wire harness and defeat the concept of connectors. Besides you don't have a diagram of the electrical system. Now if this is an aftermarket unit, all I can say is good luck trying to adopt that system to your immobilizer system (anti theft).
Need to hook up a VW scanner or equivalent so you can isolate where it's not functioning properly from the DTC (display trouble code) stored in it's memory.
hi! My golf (2000) was doing the same to me. it occured to be the faulty EGR valve (it was closing and cutting the engin off) needed to have it replaced
clean your throttlebody out,you will need to reset basic setting tho for that you will need to know somebody with a computer for cars ! if you dont know anyone then dont do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
