Question about 1994 Eagle Vision

2 Answers

My car died in the parking lot (after having the radio and headlights go out). I got it jumped and on the way home, the speedometer and gas gauges went flat, hazard lights wouldn't work, and car wasn't shifting (it got stuck around 3,000 rpm) but then suddenly snapped out of it. I took it to get the battery and alternator tested and both checked out fine. Now the car runs fine. What could have been the problem with it?

No harm done...
The alternator was too busy charging the battery that it was not putting out enough to operate everything due to probably dirty/corroded battery terminals..

Do a little maintenance:
Remove each battery cable and clean the cable clamps and the battery posts.
If you happen to do that stunt in the parking lot again (hope not), then you will see that all will work fine after a boost.

A battery that is run down that far needs charging for a time to be fully charged.accessories[lights'ac'radio etc]drawing voltage will extend the time needed.the moment it 'snapped out of it' is when the charging system caught up with the demand.

The speed sensor might be bad. I used to own a 99 Mitsubishi Eclipse with the same symptons. The car will start, but will not pass the 1st or 2nd gear, the speedometer will be at 0. I replaced the speed sensor and all the problems went away.

Car starts and dies in 3 seconds

Try unhooking the battery for about 3-5minutes. I have a 2001 malibu that does the same thing. When you hook up the battery and turn the key forward you should see the gauges return to normal before you try to crank the engine. It may also be the theft system. To reset that you have to turn the key forward for 10 minutes and then shut it off for 10 seconds. Then try again to start the car. It may take up to 3 attempts at this. Which means sitting in the parking lot for over a half hour. Been there done that. GM sucks.

you need to replace the gas gauge sending unit in the tank. GM has a lot of problems with this.
