Question about 1993 GMC Sierra

I replaced the cap and rotor, i might have put the plus on different, it keeps cutting out on me....

  • 1st screw on dist. at 11 oclock facing rear of car. 2nd screw 5 oclock...1st plug counterclok of 2nd screw is 1... now clockwise 8,4,3,6,5,7,2- left cylinders, front to back 2,4,6,8 and right cylinders 1,3,5,7

Won't start fuel pump replaced new tank and relay have fuel after fuel filter runs if I put fuel down throttle body. this is on a4,3.


Nephew had similar problem on different vehicle - had spark to plugs, limited gas, everthing else checked. I did one thing first - check for two fuel filters - one in the tank was only screens and one in the line itself. Found a little in line filter just outside of engine compartment under car next to frame that looked like it had never been changed - partially clogged - replaced it.Almost ran but would not keep running. I had rotor and cap pulled - found that the screw holding rotor in place was loose. The rotor edge next to plug wire leads was chopped up and the cap's plug wire leads were heavily oxidized. Replaced them and got it running but a little rough. Pulled the spark plugs and found gaps from 25 - 100 ---replaced the plugs with correct gapping and it ran really well.

Rpm gauge keeps jumping and it will cut off after jumping. It also acts like it wants to cut off while im driving and the transmission changes gears


This is a misfire with you car. The problem will be in 2 places if the disributor cap is bad youll see what they call ,spark flash, In the rotor this cap has to be in a set position and it has a tendeny to ge displaced and that will have to be replaced., The sparkplugs as it connects to the cap may spark flash over and at idle you can see it. Now at the sparkplug wires they go it to the valve cover and the valve cover leaks oil into the sparkplug boot. This can cause a misfire.What you need to remedy the situation is a tune up with a new distributor and cap and rotor with new sparkplug,

I have a 1990 chevy pickup 1500, 2wd. auto. the problem os that it idels ok. while in park you can give it halg throttle it runs fine, but as soon as i put it in drive and drive it down the road it starts...


Check dist. cap and rotor and replace. Just fixed one last week. Rotor was causing a misfire under load and coil contact to rotor was worn out down too the cap. Graphite dust from the center contact in cap was all over the rotor causing a misfire. $25.00 in parts or less. While you are there replace wires and plugs. Autolite ap25 plugs 2.99 each

Replace the spark plugs and wires along with a distributor cap and rotor. Be careful to leave the old wires and plug wires connected to dist.cap, just remove dist. cap from the distributor and lay aside with plug wires on it then install rotor then new cap and proceed to replace each wire for cap and spark plug one at a time so you don't mix up the spark plug wire firing order. Cap laying to the side is used for reference purpose.

Replacement of Spark Plug leads, Distributor cap, rotor for T100


I reccommend putting WD40 or CRC on the connections to stop them corroding over time. You also want to make sure the Distributor Cap gasket seals well to keep out water. last make sure you don't get the leads mixed up, best to replace them one at a time. cheers
