2000 ford escort 2.0L. plugs, wires, coil pack, alternator, MAF sensor. hard to start and RPM around 1k wants to die (any stops) always runs rough. Says air intake sensor. catalytic converter or CCRM?

Have you cleaned the throttle body and throttle body valve? have you cleaned the idle speed control air bypass valve? are the injectors clean? Are there any fault codes in memory, do the things I mentioned if you haven't already. Also hard engine mounts can cause roughness at idle. Another thing is the timing belt tight?

Ford escort 2l engine surges, changes rpm at idle.

sounds like it could be the idle speed control valve

Engine stalls, when stopped. Engine can be warm or cold when this happens. Could it be fuel filter or pump?

first thing to do is check for vacuum leaks. grap a can of spray carb cleaner and spray hose connections and elbows while the engine is running. the idle speed will change when you hit a leak with the spray. also clean the IAC valve. Idle air control valve. This device controls the idle speed. then clean or replace the PCV valve. The EGR valve will cause problems like this if it is clogged with deposits.

98 ford escort check engine light is on the code comes up p1506 how do i fix

This code refers to the Idle Air Control Overspeed Error, I would clean the IAC, and if cleaning does not work I would replace it. It is located directly on top of the throttle valve on the intake manifold. Hope this helps, let me know.

U i have a 97 ford escort that idles rough so i replaced the wires and plugs it still idles rough but runs a little better the coil shows spark on all cylinders any ideas

Often, on the Escorts of this vintage, rough idle can be due to a leak in the vacuum system. With the engine running, listen closely for any tell-tale hissing sounds coming from any of the vacuum hoses. Check that they are all securely in place and the end-clamps are all tight. Also check that the PCV valve and the hose connecting it to the manifold are securely in place. Another possibility is the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve. If it is clogged or sticking, it can cause rough idle. Refer to a service manual to diagnose the IAC valve. Other things to check: make sure that the air intake is unobstructed and clean. You might consider cleaning the manifold and throttle body. Check the air filter and replace if necessary. Let me know if you have any other questions.

My escort is rpm over 3k when it starts and check engine light comes on. i get codes 116, 412, and 411..what can i do?

Code 116- Engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor out of range, I would replace it.

Code 411- Idle speed system not controlling idle properly (too High)
Code 412- Idle speed system not cotrolling idle properly (too Low)

After replacing the ECT clear codes by disconnecting battery positive for at least ten seconds, see if codes 411, 412 return, if so clean or replace the Idle Air Control solenoid (IAC), repeat clearing of codes. Hope this helps, let me know.

Can you tell the location of the idle speed valve on a 1998 escort gti please

You will find idle speed controllers in the area of the throttle plates. In order to work, air must bypass the throttle plates.

Engine idle speed

Sounds like you idle air control valve is starting to mess up. You can actually take this off and clean it with throttle body cleaner and it should help get your idle back to normal. As is sounds the idle air control valve controls how fast/slow your car idles. It is located on the throttle body normally held on with a couple of screws. The throttle body is where the air duct hose coming from the air filter box ends at the engine block. Here is a picture of what you are looking for: a483326.jpg
Make sure that you clean the valve portion and not the electrical plug with the throttle body cleaner. Let it air dry or blow lightly with compressed air before putting it back on. Let me know if you have any more questions. Thanks for using FixYa!
