Question about 2006 Toyota Tacoma

I have been told that I cannot just replace the battery in my 2006 double cab. I have to use alternate power or I will lose the computer memory. Is this correct?

You can just replace the battery.the computer will re-set itself.you'll need to set clock & radio presets

Losing power light


the light says "losing power"???
Or is it like "battery" or "charge" or what?

My first guess is alternator isn't charging battery.

Most every auto parts store will test battery and alternator for free.

I have replaced alternator battery and computer and i am still having problems with the car. it stalls out and i lose power to everything. can anyone help?


Alternator was replaced and computer and battery,so this wasnt the problem, when you say it loses power and stalls out are you still able to crank the vehicle?If you can its not the the charging system,You have to inspect the ignition switch the electrical part,it sound like the problem reside there

I have a 1995 Chrysler labaron while driving the volt meter will completely drop and eventually the car will die due to the battery being drained I believe is the power regulator and was told that on this...

I recommend you to check the alternator if the battery indicates from 13 volts to arround 14 volts the alternator is allright but if you have less than 12 volts may be it is time to replace alternator, hope this helps!

Try to measure if there is a loss in the grounding harness between engine and body, and Batteries and body. By connecting a DVM from a good grounding point in body to either engine and battery neg terminal.
Try to "nail" the test probe to the lead terminal of the bat, in case there is a "contact resistance" between connector and terminal.

My 2006 ford focus zx4 had a low battery indicator light come on in town. On the highway with the ac on full blast and the radio on and cruise control on she started to lose engine power and the radio shut...


With a multimeter check the voltage at battery terminals. Should be more than 12.6Volts when engine off, and at least 14 volts with engine on. If the battery voltage is less than 12.6 volts then you need a new battery. If the voltage is less than 14 Volts with running engine, then the alternator is not working properly. A stop at AutoZone might help. They scan codes, and check alternators for free.

My 2006 honda odyssey won't start...2 days ago I replaced the battery thinking it was this issue...The van won't click over to start...the VSA and ABS light comes on faintly..could it be an alternator?


it sounds like that, if after installing the battery, it ran and started good, then this tells me it run until it drained the battery, so this tells me theres a charging problem, make sure the belt is on and then take a good look at the alternator and battery connections,then check the alternator output to see if its charging, it should put out 13.5 to 14.5 volts with engine running, if it doesnt then replace battery,you can also check for power at the alternator and other tests but i dont want to confuse you, a good thing to do is when removed just to double check have the parts store test it for you, it sounds like a bad alternator, hope this is helpful, good luck.

2002 F-150 regular cab. Idling seems like it wanted to die. While driving would rev up and down wanting to die. Finally died at a red light and had to be towed home. In the driveway it acts like a dead...


From what you describe, it sounds like your alternator died. The battery's main function is to provide power to start the vehicle. Once started, the alternator takes over and provides the main source of power to the truck, and also recharges the battery.
When the alternator stops working, the car starts to run solely off the battery. It will work for a little while, but as the battery starts to lose power, strange things will happen with the electronics. The computers and other electronics that control the vehicle are very dependent on a constant, steady flow of voltage. When that voltage dips below 11 or 10 volts, the car may start to run badly or strange things may happen with electrical system.
When there was finally not enough power to keep the car running, it shut off. Of course, once this happens, there will not be enough power left to start the truck back up.
