My Olds alero 01 2.4 has a metallic tapping noise when in drive, oil pressure light flickers on left turns only, and rpms jump and car bucks at over 65mph. Oil level is fine, just changed it. 72k

The tapping must be a drive train problem, not the engine where it would be tapping all the time. It could be a transmission/transaxle internal problem, or it could be a bad CV joint on the drive shafts. The drive shafts, or half shafts as they are called-one for each side of the car-connect the transaxle to the wheels, and the CV joints on the shafts allow for turning movement and for car suspension movement, while maintaining constant power to the wheels.

As for the oil light and the car bucking, I really would have a shop check the engine's oil pressure to see if it is acceptable. The light only comes on or even flickers at very low oil pressure, and that could be worrisome. It could cause expensive engine repairs. So I suggest you have an oil pressure check along with the tapping in drive, and go from there. They all sound like unrelated events, but you never know.

99 Ford F-150 won't go into 4wheel drive I looked undernieth and front drive shaft is not turning

Someone will have to go under and check the linkage is working when the 4 wheel drive is fully engaged and not just moved to a neutral position.

Slip,vdc,4wd lights always on

YOU MAY HAVE A LOOSE UNIVERSAL JOINT ON YOUR DRIVE SHAFT. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE IT WITH A LOOSE DRIVE SHAFT.... IF THE FRONT OF THE DRIVE SHAFT COMES DISCONNECTED, IT WILL DIG INTO THE PAVEMENT AND CAUSE A POLE VAULT ACTION... AND OVER TURN YOUR VEHICLE.

From what you have described, no. A drive-shaft would damage a transmission if it was too long. It would be quite the rookie mistake. I know that if your drive-shaft needed repair then the dealership would send the drive-shaft out to a drive-shaft shop The Dealership doesn't have their own balancing machine. The machine shop would replace the u-joints and then balance the drive-shaft. If the machinist had to make up a new drive-shaft because the original was damaged. It would have been then that if there was a mistake made in the drive-shafts length, it was made there. I find it hard to believe but it isn't impossible. My honest opinion is that it is a coincidence. If I can answer any questions please write back, good luck.

I have run into the drive shaft seal and or dust cover drying out causing a squeal. Just pull the drive shaft and put a light coating of grease on the seal and dust boot.

My drive shaft fell out, after the drive shaft was replaced I loose tramession floid from ware the drive shaft inserts into the tramession. Is this a seal problim and hpw dificult is to repair?

The seal was damanged when you lost the drive shaft. You need to inspect the transmission housing to insure it was not broken. Pull the drive shaft back out, Pry the seal out of the transmission housing and replace seal. Use a socket the same size as the new seal and lightly tap into place. Reinstall the drive shaft and you should be ready to go as long as the transmission housing is not damaged.

4 wheel drive light is on in my jeep

vacumn pod on the front axel is stuck on. Jack up the front wheels spin both tires at the same time and see if the front drive shaft turns. If it does the 4x4 on the axel is engaged. The front drive shaft on these should not turn when vacumn pod is disengaged. YJ's have a split axel on the right side inner axel shaft.

The ABS light is permanantly on.

The sensor by the rear drive shaft is bad. its a ring looking abs sensor, that is behind the rear drive shaft yoke in rear section of the shaft. most likely its cracked. replace it.
