Hello jkaxley: My name is Roger and I will answer your question. It is not difficult to change out the radiator. You will need a 10 mm. ans a 13 mm. socket. You will also need tools to remove the oil cooler and the transmission cooler lines. Remove the top half of the radiator fan shroud. Remove the top radiator brackets holding the radiator in. Lean the radiator in to gain access to the oil and transmission lines disconnect the lines. Remove the radiator. Reveres the procedure to reinstall the radiator. Be sure to drain the radiator before you start to do the work. Always catch the coolant as it is fatal to animals when they drink anti freeze.
Should you need further help please just ask. Please rare the answer you received. This way we can tell the answer you received helped. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger

How do I change the High Beam on a 97 GMC Yukon? Do I have to take the grill off the front to getto it?

You should be able to get to the bulbs by reaching in from the engine compartment side and twisting the headlamp sockets to the left. If you need more room to work and want to remove the healamp housing assembly, you can remove the 2 long bolts that go down through the radiator support and pull the headlamp assembly forward. It is not necessary to remove the grille.

How to remove radiator cover to add antifreeze to radiator

Your vehicle is equipped with a surge tank. There is no opening in the radiator itself. To check or add coolant (antifreeze) to your cooling system, screw the cap off of the surge tank.

CAUTION: Do this only when the engine is cool.

This is covered on page 5-26 of the 2004 GMC Yukon Owners Manual.

How do I drain the coolant in a 1998 GMC Sonoma?

Hello,

Open the bonnet of your 1998 GMC Sonoma, look under the radiator, you will see a hose/pipe coming out of the radiator going into the engine of the 1998 GMC Sonoma. Remove the hose and the coolant will drain.

You will see a screw holding the hose to the engine, get a screw driver to loosen the screw so that the hose can be easily removed.

After draining, pour more water into the radiator to flush out the coolant entirely from the radiator.

I hope this helps.

Good luck.

My 2004 yukon denali only heats up once i start driving, and starts to blow cold air when i stop or it idles. thinking it may need a new thermostat

Yes, it sounds like your thermostat is stuck in the open position.

Your thermostat is located under a metal housing on the top of the engine. The upper radiator hose connects to this housing. To change the thermostat you basically need to drain the radiator after your engine is cold, disconnect the upper radiator hose from the engine, and remove the bolts from the small housing. replace the thermostat, and clean the surfaces on both sides and replace the gasket too. reinstall the housing, attach the hose, and refill the radiator. start the engine, warm it up and check for leaks, then re check the coolant level after the engine cools off again

Radiator cap came off and lost alot of coolant. cap seems fine and assume was not on correctly. sound like any other issue? I alos need to add more coolant. Do so via the radiator or tank?

Cap cannot come off unless it was left loose. (most are a bit difficult even when removing on purpose) Refill with 50/50 mix right into the radiator while running, then re-fill bottle after closing cap. As always, don't open cap when radiator is hot.

Chaning coolant

Sorry but most newer radiators don't have a petcock. I just changed mine by removing the lower radiator hose. Most newer cars only hold a gallon or so of antifreeze anyway. If you have five year coolant (dexcool) DO NOT MIX WITH ANY OTHER BRAND regardless of what the bottles tell you. If you mix red coolant with green it will turn into a radiator and heater core clogging glop.
