I have a Ssangyong Musso 1997 with 3.2L, 6cyl engine. The engine has a very erratic idle from 200 to 1000 rpm. The car would frequently stall mostly when stopped. After a number of days with rough idle the car will no longer start (although it has started once or twice over the last few days).
Mechanics have spent several hours attempting diagnosis but have no solution. Mechanics have checked: fuel pressure & fuel pump, ignition coils, sparks work erratically.
I think the problem is in the fuel line. i have encounter it too.. the best way is to replace all fuel filter. muzzo have 3 fuel filter. 2 located at the engine and the other one located at the fuel tank they called it as strainer. u can see the opening of the tank underneath the back seat of the car. also good suggestion clean the tank. duel dirt is the main cause of your problem cause muzzo have only a small tip that why only little dirt can cause plunging in engine. sory for bad English
I have had the same problem. I replaced the spark plugs and the motor now idles properly. The engine still wont start the first time, I need to try at least twice before it starts, I think this may be a fuel delivery problem. I found that by turning the ignition on for about 3 seconds and then off and back on again helps build up the fuel line pressure but for some strange reason I need to press the accelerator pedal to the floor and then take it off before starting, then it starts first go.
Thanks for that was great help. We have cleaned the little filter inside the banjo bolt and put a new filter on running great so far...fingers crossed will do the full tank strainer on weekend. You were great and saved us money thanks
i may have help for user louis_debias there are 2 Orings in the fuel pump if they have split or damages they will cause the vehicle to not start i had the same problem a few years back replaced the Orings fixed it.
i could only find 2 fuel filters where is the second in the engine area. where is the banjo bolt located. I dont have a manual i need a link for a free manual download if some one has it too thanks.
Depending on model, some have the fuel filter mounted on the chassis rail behind the left front wheel.

Hi Ghiley it sounds like a faulty OVPR (over voltage protection replay) try that first as it is the cheapest if it's not that then it could well be your ECU i have just had the same problem OVPR did not solve mine New ECU did
Most of the time it is caused by the little "O" ring which is located in the fuel pump. They dry out and get a crack in them. Take the fuel pump assembly out of the fuel tank which is located under the rear left passengers seat and replace the "O" ring. All fixed. If need any more info, look at the SsangYong Owners Club of Australia forum site at

idle control sensor
coil packs
Check your vacuum pipes.one is probably out f place or the little black t- pirce or y- piece is cracked so not sealing properly.once had that problem, it either swithrs of much later afyet ignition is switched off or keeps on idling. Follow the baccum pipes and inspect little black joints.
Goof luck

I have a 2005 model Ssangyong Musso Dual Cab with a sticking TX air con value, are they located in the engine mounting or under the dash inside the cabin?
transmission not shifting
simple solution Buy a small round MAGNET and attach it to the side of the injector pump
