I have a 1992 Ford F 150 5.8 Liter 4OD trany,When starting out the tansmission acts like its stuck in over drive or like its in third gear. The overdrive button is not lit up on the shifter lever indicating that the overdrive is on. I can manually shift from 1st to 2nd and drive and it shifts fine. Its has that electronic shifting **** so I don`t know what i can check. It also won`t kickdown when give it gas , but will manually.
I have checked for vacume leaks and seems good. I`m changing fluid today to see if that works.I have checked for vacume leaks and seems good. I`m changing fluid today to see if that works.

O/D light flashing is to tell the driver he has a transmission problem an it should take it to a qualified repair shop an have it checked out . DTC'S - diagnostic trouble code's are stored in the PCM - powertrain control module . Don't keep driving it ,you'll wreck it all together .
If this is a clutch then you need to look into the shift actuator is what I believe it is called. It is a located on your clutch pedal. If this is an automatic it still could be something similar to that.
Sounds like your linkage slipped out of sequence. On your transmission there is a place where you can manually shift your tansmission through the gears. When you move the selector on the trani it should move the shifter as well. All the way up on selector should be park, then R,N,D so on. If you move the selector all the way up at your shifter reads something else, you need to adjust the linkage and put car in park with selector on trani in park and tighten linkage back up. Run through all the gears and you should be good.
you want to flush out the trani most likly is the filter ran through the trani the check balls inthe shift siloniods are clogged with filter now, but if you have low/1 and reverse the other possibility is that you lost a clutch band inthe trani, that would require a new trani.
You may have a trany oil leak hitting the exhaust system and you may be low on trany oil. check the trany oil level, this is done on level ground with the engine warm and running pull dip stick clean and reinsert then remove and check the level, start with that.
it sounds like the first gear is shot. starting of in drive two skipps first. this is for when stuck in mud or snow by starting in higher gear it gives less torque so the wheel won't slip as much. So yes it is expensive because the tansmission needs rebuilt continueing to start off in second will burn it out as well
possably a baring inside your gear box, if you know how 2 change a gearbox, good stuff, but first take it to a garage to see if they can pick up on it, before you do any work
Low fuel pressure may be at fault, check the pressure at the pressure port on the fuel rail at the engine when this problem manifests itself. I think the pressure should be around 40 PSI on a V8.
I have checked for vacume leaks and seems good. I`m changing fluid today to see if that works.
