If it just all of a sudden came on one day its most likely the clockspring in the steering column finally wore out......you can have it checked by someone with a obd2 scanner.....if not i would start at the clockspring ...90% of all airbag lights that are on in late 90's cars is caused by that failure.

When I start my car, and start driving, the warning buzzer starts sounding, for quite a few minutes, then no warning buzzer for a short while, then starts buzzing again

the buzzer may just be a reminder to make you look at the dash to see that warning light.
You may need to get the dealer to have a look at it.
Sorry that isn't a solution, but something is better than nothing.

My 2003 Matrix air bag light came on this morning. I've read some of the comments about this and heard it's very expensive. Does the light mean it won't work if I get in an accident or will it deploy on...

Hello, welcome to FIxYa. Please allow me to assist you.

First, we need to know why the air bag light is on. This can be from a variety of reasons. Some are expensive, some are not. I would first suggest taking the car to a place that can read the air-bag computer, and get the code or codes that are stored determined. The codes are what turns on the light, and leads us through the diagnosis. Without the codes, it is rather difficult to address the cost issues that would be involved.

To answer the second part of your question...the air bag may not deploy in the event of an accident if the light is illuminated on the dash.

Finally, no, the bag will not deploy whilst driving.

Please get the codes read, and get back to us, so that we may be better able to assist you.

Thanks for choosing FixYa for assistance today.

Air Bag warning light is lit

it means the air bags are inoperative, maybe a fuse or an open circuit, best to have someone with electrical knowledge look at it

How do i disable airbag warning light on peugeot 306 lx td

have you plugged the air bag wires back in under the seat?
if you have put after market of non genuine seats in you will not be able to turn light off
you could remove the bulb from the dash or just leave it (it will not affect the mot)

Air Bag Light, Brake Light, & ABS Light came on in the dashboard.

Check and see if your alternator is charging
Low voltage will cause those lights to come on, as the computer is shutting down.

To check your alternator you will need a volt meter... WITH the engine running you should have about 14 volts coming out. IF NOT you need to replace the Alternator!

The ABS and air-bag light are permanently on and a warning light

kenchyke, the shop may have disabled the air bag system to work on the car, and possibly forgot to activate it again. While this seems a bit odd to me that they could overlook this but, since it started after the work was done, you need to return it to the shop asap to have them check it out. Although the car runs fine, the abs system and the air bags won't operate, which could result in injury if you are in an accident (air bag will not deploy, abs probably disconnected).
