I have a 57 plate Mondeo estate 1.8 diesel. What is the recommendation for timing belt changes and has the advice from Ford changed over the last few years?

timing belts are 60,000 miles or 100,000 km depend on your operations and environment
That is advice from the belt manufacturers which ford adopt for warranty and service periods

Diagram on how to get to and replace a timing belt kit on a 2004 Chrysler 300M

all belts and pulley need to come off, belt and tensioner are located behind the metal plate on front of block. I would suggest checking the water pump and the two by pass o rings also.

PT Criuser has been running hot and now makes a loud chirping sound when cranked up . What causes this ?

my guess is your water pump is not working properly and the loud chirping sound is from the serpentine belt which also runs the water pump, alternator, ac and steering pump. first thing to check is coolant the cooling fan , thermostat , water pump in this order. chirping sound definitely come from the belt but the cause could come from any of the driven part but im zeroing in on the water pump because the car is running hot. old belt could also cause the chirping.

What best position timing mark fly wheel plate land criuser 3fe engine to re install distributor

If it rattles, timing is too far advanced.Loosen the distributor bolt,Back timing to fastest idle, and advance it just a little to where the idle is changing slower. Not much tho.Lock the distributor bolt and drive it.If still rattles,do it again till it doesn't rattle. The rattle you speak of is called engine nock, because it's firing ahead of time too much.

The engine which is made by Mercedes is not belt driven, it has a timing chain, timing chains never need to be replaced unless they fail or the engine is being rebuilt.

Check the throttle plates and idle speed control motor make sure there both clean.

Also check manifold vacuum at idle the best you can hold an idle. I have run into timing belt being one tooth off and engine still ran fine. But the vacuum was low that's how I could tell the belt was a tooth off.
