Question about 2005 Ford F 350 Super Duty

1 Answer

I have a 2005 Ford F350 with a 6.0 Turbo Diesel that looses power when running in a light load. I changeed the fuel filter and water separator and the problem went away for about 500 miles then started right back up again. Could it be that I have gotten bad fuel somewhere and have a lot a water in the tank? Should I change the filters again? Could it be a weak fuel pump? Any help/advice is appreciated.

Diesel. Reduce power lite turned on. Shut off engine and started back up - lite is off. Can it be driven?

Jerry, Drive to a good shop. So many things can cause reduced power light unfortunately. The first step would be to get the truck hooked up to a scanner/computer and have the computer scanned for trouble codes. One thing that you could try is to drain the water from the water separator that is mounted on the frame under drivers front door. If the PCM picks up on water, power is reduced until water is removed/drained. It could be an exhaust sensor that is reading faulty. Unfortunately from here its impossible to tell you exactly what the fault is because there are just so many engine sensor inputs that could cause your problem. Check the attached links, forums, instruction and guides, Good luck

Why does my ford f350 6.0 diesel start then shuts off and wont stay running.

I have a chevy c3500 with a 6.5 turbo diesel, the times that it has happened

to me was because of a dirty fuel filter or water, most diesel have a bleed off

valve to dissipate any accesss water in the fuel line, on my truck is located

on the right front side of the engine . you bleed it off when the engine is

turned off. good luck

I have a 2001 Ford F350 Superduty. When it is cold out side it leaks diesel from the fuel filter/water seperator. So far this only happens when it is cold outside. If I plug the truck in it does not do...

Hi,
the diesel system on your vehicle works on a continous 'loop". Tank to engine....engine to tank. The fuel filters and the water separator are very susceptible to the diesel fuel 'clouding" , making the fuel heavier to push around the system. The 'clouding' is actually a type of wax which is normally held in suspension within the body of the fuel and thus is not a problem.

The wax starts to plug up the fuel system, and cause lots of problems. The fuel, being harder to push around the system, takes more pressure to move it. This will result in diesel leaqkage at any and all outlets to atmosphere at the pressure end.

The problem is usually resolved by adding an additive to the fuel tank, or having a water separator with a heater., There are also weap-around heating cables which can be fitted to fuel lines to aleviate the same problem. If your water separator has an automatic dump valve, you might like to check that it is functioning correctly and the water content is not freezing and providing an exit for the diesel fuel.

Good luck.

You have to drain the water out of the fuel tank. There should be instructions on how to do that in your owner's manual. The sensor is in the tank. Hope this helps.

1999 dodge diesel 2500 seems to have a fuel related problem.

Please clarify the "loosing power" does it lose power and shut down or does it loose power but will idle? Your Cummins is electronically controlled so oil condition is important, fuel leaks, oil leaks, leaks in the air ducting between the turbo and the intake, sensors, water in the fuel. Do you get an engine light when this trouble happens? Dodge uses a lift pump to carry fuel to the the injection pump, is it working?
