Front drive could (theoretically) be disconnected by removing the front half-shafts, blocking the shaft exit points and welding the bevel gears in the center differential. Wouldn't want to try that, though...

What is it that engages front drive. Is it front gear box or in transmission?

Depends on what sort of set up you have.

If there's a transfer case - it's like another gearbox on the transmission - it's the transfer case (I.e a gearbox..) that supplies power to your front wheels.

The transfer case is itself powered by the transmission. You will have a propshaft (driveshaft) running from the transfer case to the front differential.

Do i need to take engine out on my mg midget to change gearbox thanks

hi,

simple answer is yes.

the rear part of the transmission tunnel curves underneath the back part of the gearbox so you cannot just lower it down as you can with most rwd cars.
the gearbox must be brought forward a fair way to clear this.
you easiest option is to remove the engine and gearbox together, split them out of the car, and bolt them back together to refit both into the car at the same time.

hope this helps.

Is this van FWD or RWD?

It is most likely front wheel drive, some are all wheel drive.

popped off ??? you mean the bolt broke or the joint came apart... if the arm is broken you need to replace it again.... steering isn't something you want to patch up

Can i convert my st185 gt4 to rwd

it is easy, you remove the center Diff in the transmission and you weld it then reinstall it, and remove the front CV shaft and you know have a RWD celica

1988 Toyota Celica GT4 Computer box

There is no problem with your computer box, it says 3S-GT on it, thats the way toyota did them back then. same with the 3S-FE (says 3S-F on the comp. box) and 3S-GE (3S-G on comp. box.) i dont recommend removin the cat. you will get defected (or waht is equivelant to a defect where you are) due to smog and stuff like that. Turbo timer is wired to the igntion system, no problems there. and as for gauges: get a pro to install them, but there should be zero trouble.

Gtfour manual transmission

You could, theoretically, weld the centre differential closed so that it acts as a locked unit, however you'd still end up with drive train losses. Might be easier to swap back to your 3S-GE's box...

Manual transmission

If the engine revs up when you let the clutch out and the car doesn't move then most likely your clutch is slipping and not bitting.
