If they are ATE type calipers, make sure to keep the alignment mark (the raised bump) in the correct position. I'd suggest putting the old pads in, and using a prybar on the non-contacting area in the center of the rotor for leverage, and push up on the piston. Do the pads one at a time, because compressing one piston may move the other out.

I need to replace the front driver side seat in my 1990 240 dl. Will any model year fit or do I need a seat from a 1990 240 dl?

I believe that any 240 seat will fit. You actually want an older one. I think '89 or '90 was the year when they switched to lighter tubing. The '90 through '92 seat frames are nearly all tweaked, and sometimes crack.
If you don't buy new foam, try covering the foam with denim from old blue jeans, fastened on with spray on adhesive. That will keep it from crumbling on the seat springs.

sounds as though you have a bad alternator or a loose alternator belt and the battery is not being charged. while the car is running - check the voltage from the alternator and make sure it is about 13.4 volts DC.

My Volvo S40 caliper seems to be frozen. Do i need to get a new caliper or is there something else that needs to be done to unfreeze it.

I assume you are talking about the rear calipers?

They are likely not frozen, they are a different kind of caliper that is used for the park brake as well. To compress them you need a special tool that rotates the piston while compressing it. You may be able to get one rented from AutoZone, they dont show it on their website but they seem to have more in the store than they show online.

Compressing calipers to put on new brake pads on 1988 volvo 740

There is a tool available from most auto parts supply outlets, it is a plate that has a compression bolt through it, you slide the plate into the caliper, and tighten the bolt against the piston, then keep turning until the piston is all the way in. These are relatively inexpensive and good to have for next time.

hope this helps.
