If you see clear water then that is just condensation from your a/c; although the position is off but that is the only "water" that a car has. If you are seeing coolant/antifreeze from the front the most common issue is the water pump

What makes a 04 envoy run hot and lose oil?

A hot running engine is usually caused by a cooling system problem. Make sure the coolant level is full and the thermostat.. rad fan.. radiator cap and water pump are all functioning correctly. Make sure there are no restrictions in front of the radiator to obstruct air flow and coolant circulates properly throughout the radiator. As for losing oil, check for the obvious..... Leaks. If no major leaks and you have a high mileage engine, suspect the oil to be burning within the engine. A constantly hot running engine can also cause the oil to break down quicker resulting in consumption, especially if oil changes are neglected

Overheating and no heat

With what you describe sounds like the hot water is just heating up but not circulating and cooling correctly. Possible causes, airlock, faulty water pump, check fan belt tension, not broken etc, blockage in engine water way or collapsed hose. Are you losing water at all? Head gasket?

Just because you replace hose, this should not have overheated engine. You need new automatic tensioner pulley.

Because you overheat, you need to have a pressure test done, you could have warped the heads.

Replace tensioner, get pressure test, make sure coolant level is right, check to make sure fan's come on when engine reaches temp after thermostat opens. Now after all test check ok, belt not slipping, see if you still lose power.

My ford has a leak on the right side front it smells like coolant over a two day period all the coolant leaked on the ground what do i do?

Well depending on what engine is in this vehicle, it could possibly be the water pump that is leaking or possibly a "freeze out" plug on the block. I would say it is more than likely the water pump. If you have no noticeable leaks from any of the hoses or radiator, i would definitely suspect the water pump or possibly the thermostat housing may have cracked and started to leak. My suggestion would be to look at all your hoses carefullly and then check the housings where the hoses connect to the engine block, if no signs of coolant are present, check around the water pump for noticeable coolant leaks. Hope this helps in your search for that coolant leak.

Where is the thermostat on a 3000gt

The mechanical water thermostat on the 3000gt is right under the metal water cap just to the left of the engine and next to the spark plug wires. The cap will have a warning about not opening if the car is hot as the water is pressurize and can spray out. If you want to replace the thermostat I recomend you use a genuine Mitsu thermostat. I beleive all years, base,SL and VR4 are the same but have a look at mentor mitsubishi for the right part and useful images. They also have a good discount price. Select your year, then make and model and look under COOLING SYSTEM->COOLING SYSTEM->THERMOSTAT.

Replacing the thermostat you will lose some coolant so be prepared to catch it and top it back up afterwards. You will also need the rubber gasket that goes around the thermostat if your's is old.

How do i get the water pump off ???

Does it have a 2.5L? If so this particular engine is notorious for bad head gaskets. The after market ones are great but the originals are ****. In a shop this may cost you around a $1000, they fixed the problem in later years. Is there white smoke coming from tail pipe? A milky substance on engine oil dipstick? Lack of power? losing coolant and not knowing where its going (none on ground)? It is the head gasket!

If I am wrong and it is the water pump the job is a lot easier. I apologize but I am going to explain this to you like you are 3 years old , just in case you are not mechanically inclined.

Unlike old older cars the water pump is driven by the timing belt. The timing belt is located under the timing cover in the front of the car. When you removed the thermostat the thermostat came out of the water pump, literally.

1. First you need to remove all the drive belts off the alternator, power steering, etc.

2. Then you remove the crankshaft pully (this is in the pulley in the center of the engine it is surrounded by a black cover behind it). You will have to stick a screwdriver in the flywheel (there is a access hole in between transmission and engine below the throttle body (like a carburetor) ) to stop the engine from spinning while loosing the bolt on the crankshaft (it is on tight).

3. After that you have exposed the timing cover it is maybe in 2-3 pieces (depending on the engine) remove the bolts of the timing belt cover (I believe they are 10mm) The timing cover should slide right off and the timing belt underneath is revealed.

4. Looking at the timing belt configuration you will see several pulleys. The ones to the far left and to the far right are the cam shafts (do not move these it will throw off the timing and make the car run like ****) The center is the crankshaft and there are 2 idler pulleys (they tighten the belt down). Finally on the right in between the camshaft and crankshaft is the water pump (you will see the lower radiator hose going into the bottom.

5. Drain the coolant from the radiator ( should be a plug on the bottom right (while looking at engine)

6. Once it is all drained you can then remove the lower radiator hose (where the thermostat is).

7. remove the 2 bolts holding the thermostat housing (what the radiator hose connects too) on the bottom

8. The thermostat will fall out

9. Mark the place of the timing belt with marker on camshaft pulley (on both sides), belt, and on engine. (this ensures that it goes back on exactly the way it came off. Remove the water pump bolts and remove the water pump (it may stick a little, tap side lightly to break seal) while removing water pump the timing belt will loosen just leave it (when you put new water pump back in it will tighten back up (do not remove the timing belt!!)

10. Scrap the old gasket off and apply new gasket, apply new water pump. Torque the bolts to 20 ft pounds. In a zig zag pattern (this ensures that it goes on evenly and gets a proper seal) Make sure that the timing belt marks you made all line up also. (If timing belt looks old and is fraying it may need replaced email me to get details on how replace it at

11. Put thermostat back in and thermostat housing (maybe easier from underneath. Put radiator hose back and tighten clamp.

12.. Put timing belt covers back on, crankshaft (torque this to 90ft pounds) be sure to remove the screwdriver from flywheel, and put drive belts back on.

13. Put coolant back in the radaitor (be sure the drain is closed up first)

14. Run engine for about 15 mins coolant may go down replenish as necessary (getting air out of system).

Cooling System

No you have air trapped in the cooling system, rasie the front of the car up as high as you can get it, fill the coolant bottlre to the top and run the engine for about 15 minutes at a high idle, let it cool down, it should purge itself of air once it is cool, make sure your radiator cap is good.

I don't know how many miles you have on the car but it sounds very much like a water pump failure.
When the seals fail, there is (on most) a small (1/6") hole in the water pump housing that allows water to drain to prevent possible contamination into the engine.

This may be tough to see but the pump is driven by a belt/pulley located at the front of the engine. It may also be pretty much into the block making it hard to distinguish on some cars.

You should be able to recognize the NON-pump pullies such as AC compressor, idlers, alternator, etc.
The one you can't quite nail down - that's probably the water pump.

On some vehicles it is a very easy job to remove and replace, others can be an absolute b---h.

I would highly recommend you buy an aftermarket service manual from Haynes or Chilton so you will have a handy reference.
It may also save you money by getting some info before taking it in for potentially costly service.
