How much antifreeze to put in?

My coolant is low on my 2002 Chevy Cavalier. How much antifreeze should I put in? I don't see a 'fill to' line on the tank.

There should be a mark there somewhere...generally filling to 3/4 full is fine. If you overfill a bit the worst that will happen is that it will spit out the excess....better than under-filling. Also since you needed to add coolant I suggest you take a good look to make sure there aren't any leaks. Better to take care of any while they are small and not causing big problems.

How do You change the antifreeze on a 2002 Volvo S40 1.9t

There will be a drain plug in the bottom of the Radiator so you can drain the old Coolant out. Close the drain plug and refill from the Coolant Tank on the inner fender well. Fill it with the engine off then start it up and finish filling to the full line on the coolant tank.

It's a 12 volt motor for the fan...with the car cold, not running, and no key in the ignition...check to see if the fan will turn by spinning it with your hand...more than likely it is seized (the motor case may have actually rotted and swollen) and needs replacement...other than that...you may have a bad relay or temperature sensor.

My coolant isnt staying in recovery tank hoses look what else should i check and the hose from tank the short one does not hook up to anything the one by the cap

You need enough coolant to fill bottom of tank when the engine is cool, so you might have to add coolant. There should be a line showing on the tank for cold level, don't overfill. When coolant gets hot it flows into tank then sucks back into engine when cooling off. The small hose is for an overflow and to let the tank breathe.

My 01 Cavalier is overheating. I changed the thermostat and do not see any apparent leaks. The heater was blowing hot air before I changed the thermostat and now it's only blowing cool air. Any

What engine 2.2 or 2.4 ?
Important: On vehicles equipped with the 2.4L engine, open the coolant air bleed valve. The coolant air bleed valve is located on the top of the thermostat bypass pipe/heater pipe assembly. Close the valve once a continuous stream of coolant is expelled from the valve.
Does the cooling fan come on ?
Notice: When adding coolant, it is important that you use GM Goodwrench DEX-COOL™ coolant. If coolant other than DEX-COOL™ is added to the system, the engine coolant will require change sooner: at 50 000 km (30,000 miles) or 24 months.
Close the radiator drain ****. Remove the drain hose.
If previously removed, install the engine block drain plugs.
When installing the drain plugs, use pipe sealer GM P/N 12346004.
Important: On vehicles equipped with the 2.4L engine, open the coolant air bleed valve. The coolant air bleed valve is located on the top of the thermostat bypass pipe/heater pipe assembly. Close the valve once a continuous stream of coolant is expelled from the valve.
Fill the surge tank to the base of the filler neck.
Start the engine with the pressure cap off. Let the engine run until the upper radiator hose starts to get hot.
If the coolant level in the surge tank is low, add the proper mix of coolant until the level reaches the full cold line.
Important: After servicing the cooling system, and if the vehicle is equipped with an intermittent low coolant light, an occasional low coolant light may be encountered during some extreme driving maneuvers. This complaint should be eliminated by removing the surge tank cap and adding coolant to a level just at or above the full cold line when the system is cold.
Install the cap onto the tank with hand tight pressure.

Car is running hot added coolant runs fine for a while today I was adding coolant to the reserve tank and saw a hose that is loose but can't find where it should be connected. When adding coolant it...

  • There are two hoses on an Antifreeze reservoir tank.
  • One is to allow escape in case of unexpected back pressure or overfill of the reservoir.
  • The other will be a hose that clamps on to the radiator right below the cap on a little spout coming off the fill neck of the radiator. This hose is the actual path the antifreeze takes when the radiator is low pressure pulls the antifreeze out of the reservoir to use.

  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

I flushed my antifreeze in my 2002 Ford Explorer and filled with regular antifreeze. It was still low so I added DEXCOOL antifreeze that I have for my Chevy...Since then, my windows are either not...

sometimes when you flush the system especially if you use a flush chemical and have a weak seam on the radiator, heater core, water pump, etc. any part of the cooling system it will cause a leak I have had it happen to me before, it sounds like the heater core is leaking which unfortunately is expensive to replace

IT DEPENDS SOME OLDERS CARS USE GREEN ANTIFREEZE.MOST NEWER VECHICLE USE DEXCOOL ORANGE ANTIFREEZE.YOU NEED TO LOOK UP TO SEE WHAT TYPE ANTIFREEZE VECHICLE USE BEFORE PUTTING ANY IN SYSTEM.IF YOUR CAP SAY COOLANT THEN THATS WHERE YOUR ANTIFREEZE GOES.
